Immorality Rebuked (Leviticus 20:10–21; Proverbs 5:1–23)
AKJV It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. BSB BSB: It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
AKJV And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that has done this deed might be taken away from among you. BSB BSB: And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?
AKJV For I truly, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that has so done this deed, BSB BSB: Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
AKJV In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, BSB BSB: When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,
AKJV To deliver such an one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. BSB BSB: hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
AKJV Your glorying is not good. Know you not that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? BSB BSB: Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
AKJV Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. BSB BSB: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.
Expel the Immoral Brother 9 AKJV I wrote to you in an letter not to company with fornicators: BSB BSB: I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
AKJV Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortionists, or with idolaters; for then must you needs go out of the world. BSB BSB: I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
AKJV But now I have written to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortionist; with such an one no not to eat. BSB BSB: But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
AKJV For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not you judge them that are within? BSB BSB: What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
AKJV But them that are without God judges. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. BSB BSB: God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
