Reaffirm Your Love 1 AKJV But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. BSB BSB: So I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you.
2 AKJV For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me? BSB BSB: For if I grieve you, who is left to cheer me but those whom I have grieved?
3 AKJV And I wrote this same to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. BSB BSB: I wrote as I did so that on my arrival I would not be grieved by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would share my joy.
4 AKJV For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly to you. BSB BSB: For through many tears I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart, not to grieve you but to let you know how much I love you.
5 AKJV But if any have caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. BSB BSB: Now if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me but all of you—to some degree, not to overstate it.
6 AKJV Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. BSB BSB: The punishment imposed on him by the majority is sufficient for him.
7 AKJV So that contrariwise you ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. BSB BSB: So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
8 AKJV Why I beseech you that you would confirm your love toward him. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
9 AKJV For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether you be obedient in all things. BSB BSB: My purpose in writing you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
10 AKJV To whom you forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; BSB BSB: If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,
11 AKJV Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. BSB BSB: in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Triumph in Christ 12 AKJV Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me of the Lord, BSB BSB: Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and a door stood open for me in the Lord,
13 AKJV I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from there into Macedonia. BSB BSB: I had no peace in my spirit, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.
14 AKJV Now thanks be to God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and makes manifest the aroma of his knowledge by us in every place. BSB BSB: But thanks be to God, who always leads us triumphantly as captives in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.
15 AKJV For we are to God a sweet smell of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: BSB BSB: For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
16 AKJV To the one we are the smell of death to death; and to the other the smell of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things? BSB BSB: To the one we are an odor that brings death, to the other a fragrance that brings life. And who is qualified for such a task?
17 AKJV For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. BSB BSB: For we are not like so many others, who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as men sent from God.
