1. Our Eternal Dwelling

   (Romans 8:18–27)

2. 1AKJVFor we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.BSBBSB: For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
3. 2AKJVFor in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed on with our house which is from heaven:BSBBSB: For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,
4. 3AKJVIf so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.BSBBSB: because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.
5. 4AKJVFor we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed on, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.BSBBSB: For while we are in this tent, we groan under our burdens, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed, so that our mortality may be swallowed up by life.
6. 5AKJVNow he that has worked us for the selfsame thing is God, who also has given to us the earnest of the Spirit.BSBBSB: And it is God who has prepared us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a pledge of what is to come.
7. 6AKJVTherefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:BSBBSB: Therefore we are always confident, although we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord.
8. 7AKJV(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)BSBBSB: For we walk by faith, not by sight.
9. 8AKJVWe are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.BSBBSB: We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
10. 9AKJVWhy we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.BSBBSB: So we aspire to please Him, whether we are at home in this body or away from it.
11. 10AKJVFor we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.BSBBSB: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

13. 11AKJVKnowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.BSBBSB: Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
14. 12AKJVFor we commend not ourselves again to you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that you may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.BSBBSB: We are not commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart.
15. 13AKJVFor whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.BSBBSB: If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
16. 14AKJVFor the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:BSBBSB: For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died.
17. 15AKJVAnd that he died for all, that they which live should not from now on live to themselves, but to him which died for them, and rose again.BSBBSB: And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again.
18. 16AKJVWhy from now on know we no man after the flesh: yes, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now from now on know we him no more.BSBBSB: So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
19. 17AKJVTherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.BSBBSB: Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!
20. 18AKJVAnd all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;BSBBSB: All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
21. 19AKJVTo wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their trespasses to them; and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.BSBBSB: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
22. 20AKJVNow then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be you reconciled to God.BSBBSB: Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.
23. 21AKJVFor he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.BSBBSB: God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
