The Parable of the Ten Virgins 1 AKJV Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. BSB BSB: “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
AKJV And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. BSB BSB: Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
AKJV They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: BSB BSB: The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take along any extra oil.
AKJV But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. BSB BSB: But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps.
AKJV While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. BSB BSB: When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
AKJV And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet him. BSB BSB: At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
AKJV Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. BSB BSB: Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
AKJV And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. BSB BSB: The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
AKJV But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go you rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. BSB BSB: ‘No,’ said the wise ones, ‘or there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
AKJV And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. BSB BSB: But while they were on their way to buy it, the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.
AKJV Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. BSB BSB: Later the other virgins arrived and said, ‘Lord, lord, open the door for us!’
AKJV But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I know you not. BSB BSB: But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’
AKJV Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes. BSB BSB: Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
The Parable of the Talents (Luke 19:11–27)
AKJV For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods. BSB BSB: For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions.
AKJV And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. BSB BSB: To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent—each according to his own ability. And he went on his journey.
AKJV Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. BSB BSB: The servant who had received the five talents went at once and put them to work and gained five more.
AKJV And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. BSB BSB: Likewise, the one with the two talents gained two more.
AKJV But he that had received one went and dig in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. BSB BSB: But the servant who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.
AKJV After a long time the lord of those servants comes, and reckons with them. BSB BSB: After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
AKJV And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. BSB BSB: The servant who had received the five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’
AKJV His lord said to him, Well done, you good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. BSB BSB: His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
AKJV He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. BSB BSB: The servant who had received the two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’
AKJV His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. BSB BSB: His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
AKJV Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you that you are an hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not strewed: BSB BSB: Finally, the servant who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
AKJV And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: see, there you have that is yours. BSB BSB: So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’
AKJV His lord answered and said to him, You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed: BSB BSB: ‘You wicked, lazy servant!’ replied his master. ‘You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed.
AKJV You should therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with usury. BSB BSB: Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest.
AKJV Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him which has ten talents. BSB BSB: Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.
AKJV For to every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has. BSB BSB: For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
AKJV And cast you the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. BSB BSB: And throw that worthless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The Sheep and the Goats 32 AKJV And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats: BSB BSB: All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
AKJV And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. BSB BSB: He will place the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.
AKJV Then shall the King say to them on his right hand, Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: BSB BSB: Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
AKJV For I was an hungered, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: BSB BSB: For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in,
AKJV Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. BSB BSB: I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’
AKJV Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you an hungered, and fed you? or thirsty, and gave you drink? BSB BSB: Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink?
AKJV When saw we you a stranger, and took you in? or naked, and clothed you? BSB BSB: When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
AKJV Or when saw we you sick, or in prison, and came to you? BSB BSB: When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’
AKJV And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me. BSB BSB: And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’
AKJV For I was an hungered, and you gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink: BSB BSB: For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink,
AKJV I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and you visited me not. BSB BSB: I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after Me.’
AKJV Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you an hungered, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you? BSB BSB: And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
AKJV Then shall he answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me. BSB BSB: Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’
