AKJV And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said to the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; your sins be forgiven you. BSB BSB: Just then some men brought to Him a paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.”
AKJV And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemes. BSB BSB: On seeing this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming!”
AKJV And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why think you evil in your hearts? BSB BSB: But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said, “Why do you harbor evil in your hearts?
AKJV For whether is easier, to say, Your sins be forgiven you; or to say, Arise, and walk? BSB BSB: Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
AKJV But that you may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, (then says he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house. BSB BSB: But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” Then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
AKJV And he arose, and departed to his house. BSB BSB: And the man got up and went home.
AKJV But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, which had given such power to men. BSB BSB: When the crowds saw this, they were filled with awe and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Jesus Calls Matthew (Mark 2:13–17; Luke 5:27–32)
AKJV And as Jesus passed forth from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he says to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. BSB BSB: As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me,” He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.

AKJV And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why eats your Master with publicans and sinners? BSB BSB: When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
AKJV But when Jesus heard that, he said to them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. BSB BSB: On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
AKJV But go you and learn what that means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. BSB BSB: But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Questions about Fasting (Mark 2:18–20; Luke 5:33–35)
AKJV Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but your disciples fast not? BSB BSB: Then John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast so often, but Your disciples do not fast?”
AKJV And Jesus said to them, Can the children of the bridal chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. BSB BSB: Jesus replied, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while He is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
The Patches and the Wineskins (Mark 2:21–22; Luke 5:36–39)
AKJV No man puts a piece of new cloth to an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up takes from the garment, and the rent is made worse. BSB BSB: No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse tear will result.
AKJV Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runs out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. BSB BSB: Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
The Healing Touch of Jesus (Mark 5:21–43; Luke 8:40–56)
AKJV While he spoke these things to them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay your hand on her, and she shall live. 21 AKJV For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. BSB BSB: She said to herself, “If only I touch His cloak, I will be healed.”
AKJV But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. BSB BSB: Jesus turned and saw her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that very hour.
AKJV And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, BSB BSB: When Jesus entered the house of the synagogue leader, He saw the flute players and the noisy crowd.
AKJV He said to them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn. BSB BSB: “Go away,” He told them. “The girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they laughed at Him.
AKJV But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. BSB BSB: After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.

BSB BSB: After Jesus had entered the house, the blind men came to Him. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” He asked. “Yes, Lord,” they answered.
AKJV Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it to you. BSB BSB: Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.”
AKJV And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. BSB BSB: And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”
AKJV But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country. BSB BSB: But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout the land.
AKJV As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. BSB BSB: As they were leaving, a demon-possessed man who was mute was brought to Jesus.
AKJV And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. BSB BSB: And when the demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
AKJV But the Pharisees said, He casts out devils through the prince of the devils. BSB BSB: But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that He drives out demons.”

AKJV But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. BSB BSB: When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
AKJV Then says he to his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; BSB BSB: Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
AKJV Pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. BSB BSB: Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”
