1 ULB ለሳኦል መናገሩን በጨረሰ ጊዜ የዮናታን ነፍስ በዳዊት ነፍስ ታሰረች፥ ዮናታንም እንደ ራሱ ነፍስ አድርጎ ወደደው። BSB BSB: After David had finished speaking with Saul, the souls of Jonathan and David were knit together, and Jonathan loved him as himself.
2 ULB በዚያ ቀን ሳኦል ዳዊትን ወደ ራሱ አገልግሎት ወሰደው፤ ወደ አባቱ ቤት እንዲመለስ አላሰናበተውም። BSB BSB: And from that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father’s house.
3 ULB ዮናታን ዳዊትን እንደ ራሱ ነፍስ አድርጎ ስለወደደው በመካከላቸው የወዳጅነት ቃል ኪዳን አደረጉ። BSB BSB: Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
4 ULB ዮናታን የለበሰውን ካባ አውልቆ ከጦር ልብሱ ጋር፥ እንዲሁም ሰይፉን፥ ቀስቱንና መታጠቂያውን ለዳዊት ሰጠው። BSB BSB: And Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, his sword, his bow, and his belt.
5 ULB ዳዊት ሳኦል ወደሚልከው ቦታ ሁሉ ይሄድ ነበር፥ ይከናወንለትም ነበር። ሳኦልም በተዋጊዎቹ ላይ ሾመው። ይህም በሕዝቡ ዓይን ሁሉ ደግሞም በሳኦል አገልጋዮች ፊት ደስ የሚያሰኝ ሆነ። BSB BSB: So David marched out and prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.
6 ULB ፍልስጥኤማውያንን ድል አድርገው ወደ መኖሪያቸው በመመለስ ላይ እያሉ ከእስራኤል ከተሞች ሁሉ ንጉሥ ሳኦልን ለመገናኘት፥ ሴቶች በከበሮና በሙዚቃ መሳሪያዎች በደስታ እየዘመሩና እየጨፈሩ መጡ። BSB BSB: As the troops were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with tambourines and other instruments.
7 ULB ሴቶቹም ሲጫወቱ እየተቀባበሉ ይዘምሩ ነበር፤ እነርሱም፥ "ሳኦል ሺዎችን ገደል፥ ዳዊትም ዐሥር ሺዎችን ገደለ" እያሉ ዘመሩ። BSB BSB: And as the women danced, they sang out: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”
8 ULB ሳኦል እጅግ ተቆጣ፥ ይህም መዝሙር አስከፋው። እርሱም፥ "ለዳዊት ዐሥር ሺዎች አሉ፥ ለእኔ ግን ሺዎችን ብቻ። ታዲያ ከመንግሥት በቀር ምን ቀረው?" አለ። BSB BSB: And Saul was furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?”
9 ULB ሳኦል ከዚያን ቀን ጀምሮ ዳዊትን በጥርጣሬ ዐይን ተመለከተው። BSB BSB: And from that day forward Saul kept a jealous eye on David.
10 ULB በቀጣዩ ቀን በሳኦል ላይ ከእግዚአብሔር ዘንድ ክፉ መንፈስ መጣበት። እርሱም በቤት ውስጥ እንደ ዕብድ ይለፈልፍ ነበር። ስለዚህ ዳዊት በየቀኑ ያደርግ እንደነበረው በገናውን ይደረድር ነበር። ሳኦልም በእጁ ጦር ይዞ ነበር። BSB BSB: The next day a spirit of distress sent from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied inside the house while David played the harp as usual. Now Saul was holding a spear,
11 ULB ሳኦል፥ "ዳዊትን ከግድግዳው ጋር አጣብቀዋለሁ" ብሎ በማሰብ ጦሩን ወረወረበት። ነገር ግን ዳዊት ከሳኦል ፊት ሁለት ጊዜ እንዲህ ባለ መንገድ አመለጠ። BSB BSB: and he hurled it, thinking, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.
12 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከዳዊት ጋር እንጂ ከእርሱ ጋር ስላልነበረ ሳኦል ዳዊትን ፈራው። BSB BSB: So Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with David but had departed from Saul.
13 ULB ስለዚህ ሳኦል ከፊቱ አራቀው፥ ሻለቃም አድርጎ ሾመው። በዚህ ሁኔታ ዳዊት በሕዝቡ ፊት ይወጣና ይገባ ነበር። BSB BSB: Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,
14 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከእርሱ ጋር ስለነበረ ዳዊት የሚሠራው ሁሉ ይከናወንለት ነበር። BSB BSB: and he continued to prosper in all his ways, because the LORD was with him.
15 ULB እንደ ተከናወነለት ሳኦል ባየ ጊዜ እጅግ ፈራው። BSB BSB: When Saul saw that David was very successful, he was afraid of him.
16 ULB ነገር ግን በፊታቸው ይወጣና ይገባ ስለነበረ እስራኤልና ይሁዳ ሁሉ ዳዊትን ወደዱት። BSB BSB: But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was leading them out to battle and back.
17 ULB ከዚያም ሳኦል ዳዊትን፥ "ትልቋ ልጄ ሜሮብ ይቹት። እርሷን እድርልሃለሁ። ብቻ ጎብዝልኝ፥ የእግዚአብሔርን ጦርነቶችም ተዋጋ" አለው። ሳኦል፥ "እጄ በእርሱ ላይ አይሁን፥ ነገር ግን የፍልስጥኤማውያን እጅ በእርሱ ላይ ይሁን" ብሎ አስቦአልና። BSB BSB: Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage. Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I need not raise my hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”
18 ULB ዳዊትም ሳኦልን፥ "የንጉሥ አማች ለመሆን እኔ ማነኝ? ሕይወቴ ወይም የአባቴ ቤተ ሰብ በእስራኤል ውስጥ ምንድነው?" አለው። BSB BSB: And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my family or my father’s clan in Israel, that I should become the son-in-law of the king?”
19 ULB ነገር ግን የሳኦል ልጅ ሜሮብ ለዳዊት የምትዳርበት ጊዜ ሲደርስ ለመሓላታዊው ለኤድሪኤል ተዳረች። BSB BSB: So when it was time to give Saul’s daughter Merab to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.
20 ULB ነገር ግን የሳኦል ልጅ ሜልኮል ዳዊትን ወደደችው። ለሳኦል ነገሩት፥ ይህም እርሱን ደስ አሰኘው። BSB BSB: Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David, and when this was reported to Saul, it pleased him.
21 ULB ከዚያም ሳኦል፥ "ወጥመድ እንድትሆነውና የፍልስጥኤማውያን እጅ በእርሱ ላይ እንድትሆን እርሷን እድርለታለሁ" ብሎ አሰበ። ስለዚህ ሳኦል ዳዊትን ለሁለተኛ ጊዜ፥ "አማቼ ትሆናለህ" አለው። BSB BSB: “I will give her to David,” Saul thought, “so that she may be a snare to him, and the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “For a second time now you can be my son-in-law.”
22 ULB ሳኦል አገልጋዮቹን እንዲህ ሲል አዘዛቸው፥ "ዳዊትን በምስጢር እንዲህ በሉት፥ 'አስተውል፥ ንጉሡ በአንተ ደስ ብሎታል፥ አገልጋዮቹም ሁሉ ይወዱሃል። እንግዲያው የንጉሡ አማች ሁን'" BSB BSB: Then Saul ordered his servants, “Speak to David privately and tell him, ‘Behold, the king is pleased with you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become his son-in-law.’”
23 ULB ስለዚህ የሳኦል አገልጋዮች ይህንን ቃል ለዳዊት ነገሩት። ዳዊትም፥ "እኔ ድሃና ብዙም የማልታወቅ ሰው ሆኜ እያለሁ የንጉሥ አማች እንድሆን ማሰባችሁ ጉዳዩ እንዴት ቀልሎ ታያችሁ?" አላቸው። BSB BSB: But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem trivial in your sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”
24 ULB የሳኦል አገልጋዮችም ዳዊት የተናገረውን ቃል ነገሩት። BSB BSB: And the servants told Saul what David had said.
25 ULB ሳኦልም፥ "ለዳዊት እንዲህ ትሉታላችሁ፥ 'የንጉሡን ጠላቶች ለመበቀል ከአንድ መቶ የፍልስጥኤማውያን ሸለፈት ብቻ በቀር ንጉሡ ምንም ጥሎሽ አይፈልግም"። ዳዊት በፍልስጥኤማውያን እጅ እንዲወድቅ ለማድረግ ሳኦል አሰበ። BSB BSB: Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king desires no other dowry but a hundred Philistine foreskins as revenge on his enemies.’” But Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines.
26 ULB አገልጋዮቹ ይህንን ቃል ለዳዊት በነገሩት ጊዜ የንጉሡ አማች መሆን ዳዊትን ደስ አሰኘው። BSB BSB: When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived,
27 ULB እነዚያ ቀናት ከማብቃታቸው በፊት፥ ዳዊት ከሰዎቹ ጋር ሄዶ ሁለት መቶ ፍልስጥኤማውያንን ገደለ። ዳዊት የንጉሡ አማች ይሆን ዘንድ ሸለፈቶቹን አመጣ፥ ለንጉሡም ሙሉውን ቁጥር አስረከቡ። ስለዚህ ሳኦል ልጁን ሜልኮልን ዳረለት። BSB BSB: David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.
28 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከዳዊት ጋር እንደነበረ ሳኦል አየ፥ ዐወቀም። የሳኦል ልጅ ሜልኮልም ወደደችው። BSB BSB: When Saul realized that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David,
29 ULB ሳኦልም ዳዊትን የበለጠ ፈራው። ሳኦል የዳዊት ጠላቱ እንደሆነ ቀጠለ። BSB BSB: he grew even more afraid of David. So from then on Saul was David’s enemy.
30 ULB ከዚያም የፍልስጥኤም ልዑላን ብዙ ጊዜ ያደርጉት እንደነበረው ለጦርነት መጡ፥ ዳዊት ከሳኦል አገልጋዮች ሁሉ በበለጠ ሁኔታ የተሳካለት ሆነ፥ በመሆኑም ስሙ እጅግ የተከበረ ሆነ። BSB BSB: Every time the Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
