1 ARST Then Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 ARST “Set up the sacred tent where you will meet with me on the first day of the first month of the year. BSB BSB: “On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
3 ARST Put inside it the sacred chest containing the stone slabs with the Ten Commandments. Hide it by hanging its curtain in front of it. BSB BSB: Put the ark of the Testimony in it and screen off the ark with the veil.
4 ARST Bring the table into the sacred tent and neatly organize on it all the things that they made for it. Then bring in the lampstand and put the lamps up into it. BSB BSB: Then bring in the table and set out its arrangement; bring in the lampstand as well, and set up its lamps.
5 ARST Put the gold altar for burning incense in front of the sacred chest, and set up the curtain at the entrance of the sacred tent. BSB BSB: Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony, and hang the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
6 ARST Put the altar for burning sacrifices in front of the entrance to the sacred tent where you will meet with me. BSB BSB: Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
7 ARST Put the washbasin between the sacred tent and the altar, and fill it with water. BSB BSB: And place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
8 ARST Hang the curtains around the outside to make the courtyard, and also hang up the courtyard’ s entrance curtain. BSB BSB: Set up the surrounding courtyard and hang the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard.
9 ARST Then take the oil for anointing and put it on the sacred tent and everything that is in it, to consecrate it all to me. Then it will be dedicated to me. BSB BSB: Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it along with all its furnishings, and it shall be holy.
10 ARST Also put some of the oil on the altar on which the priests will burn the sacrifices and on all the things that they will use at the altar. This will consecrate the altar to me. Then it will be scared, dedicated to me. BSB BSB: Anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it shall be most holy.
11 ARST Also put some of the oil on the washbasin and its base, to consecrate them to me. BSB BSB: Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
12 ARST Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the sacred tent and wash them with water. BSB BSB: Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
13 ARST Then set Aaron apart for serving me as a priest by putting his sacred vestments on him and by pouring oil on him. BSB BSB: And you are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he may serve Me as a priest.
14 ARST Also bring Aaron’ s sons and put their special tunics on them, BSB BSB: Bring his sons forward and clothe them with tunics.
15 ARST then pour oil on them just as you did on their father. This will consecrate them to serve me as priests. By pouring oil on them, you will cause them and their descendants to be priests throughout all their future generations.” BSB BSB: Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve Me as priests. Their anointing will qualify them for a permanent priesthood throughout their generations.”
16 ARST Moses did all these things exactly as Yahweh had commanded him to do. BSB BSB: Moses did everything just as the LORD had commanded him.
17 ARST On the first day of the first month of Israel’ s second year, the people set up the sacred tent. BSB BSB: So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.
18 ARST Moses set up the sacred tent, and its bases, frames, crossbars, and posts. BSB BSB: When Moses set up the tabernacle, he laid its bases, positioned its frames, inserted its crossbars, and set up its posts.
19 ARST He spread out the two layers of coverings over the sacred tent, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, just as the LORD had commanded him.
20 ARST Then Moses took the two stone slabs on which Yahweh had written his commandments and put them into the sacred chest. He put the carrying poles into the rings on the chest and put the lid on top of it. BSB BSB: Moses took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attaching the poles to the ark; and he set the mercy seat atop the ark.
21 ARST Then Moses took the chest into{ the Holy Place inside} the sacred tent. He hung the thick curtain to conceal the chest containing the commandments, exactly as Yahweh had commanded him. BSB BSB: Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle, put up the veil for the screen, and shielded off the ark of the Testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him.
22 ARST He set the table inside the sacred tent, on its north side, outside the curtain{ that hid the sacred chest}. BSB BSB: Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil.
23 ARST He laid out the bread neatly on the table to display it before Yahweh, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses to do. BSB BSB: He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
24 ARST He set the lampstand inside the sacred tent, on the south side, on the opposite side from the table. BSB BSB: He also placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
25 ARST Then he set the lamps on the lampstand in Yahweh’ s presence, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and set up the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
26 ARST He set the gold altar{ for burning incense} inside the sacred tent, in front of the curtain{ that hid the Most Holy Place}. BSB BSB: Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting, in front of the veil,
27 ARST He burned some sweet- smelling incense on it, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
28 ARST He hung the curtain at the entrance to the sacred tent. BSB BSB: Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
29 ARST At the entrance to the sacred tent where they would meet with Yahweh, he placed the altar for burning sacrifices. Then he sacrificed meat and flour by burning them on it, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He placed the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.
30 ARST He set the washbasin between the sacred tent and the bronze altar, and filled the washbasin with water. BSB BSB: He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing;
31 ARST Moses, Aaron, and his sons would wash their hands and feet in the washbasin. BSB BSB: and from it Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet.
32 ARST Whenever they went into the sacred tent and whenever they came close to the altar, they would wash themselves, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
33 ARST He hung up{ the curtains that} surrounded the sacred tent and the altar and the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. Then Moses was finished building the sacred tent complex. BSB BSB: And Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and the altar, and he hung the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.
34 ARST Then the tall cloud covered the sacred tent, and Yahweh’ s power and brilliant light filled the sacred tent. BSB BSB: Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
35 ARST Because the cloud covered it and Yahweh’ s light was very bright, Moses was not able to enter the sacred tent. BSB BSB: Moses was unable to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
36 ARST { From that day,} whenever Yahweh’ s cloud moved off of the sacred, tent the Israelites would{ pack their camp} and start traveling. BSB BSB: Whenever the cloud was lifted from above the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out through all the stages of their journey.
37 ARST But if the cloud did not move, they stayed where they were and waited for a day that the cloud moved. BSB BSB: If the cloud was not lifted, they would not set out until the day it was taken up.
38 ARST Wherever the Israelites traveled, Yahweh’ s cloud was above the sacred tent during the day, and his fire was over it at night. The Israelites could always see{ that Yahweh was with them}. BSB BSB: For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel through all their journeys.
