1 ARST Yahweh said to me,“Son of man, speak for me about the terrible things that will happen to Gog. Say this to him:‘Gog, I am your enemy, you who rule Meshech and Tubal. BSB BSB: “As for you, O son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
2 ARST I will turn you around and drag you and your armies from far north of Israel and send you to fight on the mountains of Israel. BSB BSB: I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel.
3 ARST When you are there, I will snatch your bows from your left hands and cause your arrows to fall from your right hands. BSB BSB: Then I will strike the bow from your left hand and dash down the arrows from your right hand.
4 ARST You and all the soldiers that are with you will die on the mountains of Israel. I will give your corpses to be food for the birds that eat dead flesh, and to the wild animals. BSB BSB: On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of ravenous bird and wild beast.
5 ARST You will die in the open fields. This will certainly happen because I, Yahweh the Lord, have said that it will happen. BSB BSB: You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
6 ARST I will cause many fires to burn in Magog and to all those who live safely in the areas along their coasts, and they will know that it is I, Yahweh, who have the power to do what I say that I will do. BSB BSB: I will send fire on Magog and on those who dwell securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.
7 ARST I will enable my Israelite people to know that I am holy. I will no longer allow them to mock me, and the people groups in the other lands will know that I am Yahweh, the God whom Israel worships and honors. BSB BSB: So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 ARST That day is fast approaching. I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that those things will happen soon. BSB BSB: Yes, it is coming, and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD. This is the day of which I have spoken.
9 ARST At that time, the people who live in the cities of Israel will go out and gather the weapons from the dead soldiers, and will use them to make fires to cook their food. They will burn the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs, and spears. There will be enough weapons to use as firewood for seven years. BSB BSB: Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out, kindle fires, and burn up the weapons—the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.
10 ARST They will not need to gather firewood in the fields or cut wood from trees in the forests, because those weapons will be all the firewood that they will need. And they will take valuable things from those who took valuable things from them, and steal things from people who stole things from them. That is what I, Yahweh the Lord, declare will happen. BSB BSB: They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will loot those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord GOD.
11 ARST At that time I will create a graveyard for you, Gog, and your soldiers, in the valley east of the Dead Sea. That graveyard will block the road that travelers usually walk on, because you, Gog and all the soldiers of your huge army will be buried there. So it will be named the Valley of Hamon Gog. BSB BSB: And on that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog.
12 ARST For seven months the people of Israel will be burying your corpses. It will be necessary to bury all of them, in order that the land will not be defiled because of any unburied corpses. BSB BSB: For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.
13 ARST All the people of Israel will do the work of burying them. The day when I win that victory they will honor me, and they will remember that day forever. BSB BSB: All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD.
14 ARST After those seven months are ended, the Israelite people will designate men to go throughout the land to bury any remaining corpses, in order that the land might not remain defiled. BSB BSB: And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to cleanse it by burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search.
15 ARST When they go through the land, whenever one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker beside it. When the gravediggers see the markers, they will pick up the bones and bury them in the Valley of Hamon Gog. BSB BSB: As they pass through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will set up a pillar next to it, until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon-gog.
16 ARST There will be a city there named Hamonah. And by doing this work of burying the corpses, they will cleanse the land.’” BSB BSB: (Even the city will be named Hamonah.) And so they will cleanse the land.
17 ARST Yahweh said to me,“Son of man, this is what I, the Lord Yahweh, say: Summon every kind of bird and wild animal. Say to them,‘Gather together from everywhere and come to the feast that Yahweh is preparing for you. It will be a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat men’ s flesh and drink their blood. BSB BSB: And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.
18 ARST You will eat the flesh of strong soldiers and drink the blood of kings as if they were fat animals from the region of Bashan— as if they were male sheep, lambs, goats, and bulls. BSB BSB: You will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all the fattened animals of Bashan.
19 ARST At the feast that Yahweh is preparing for you, you will eat fat until your stomachs are full, and you will drink blood until it is as though you are drunk. BSB BSB: At the sacrifice I am preparing, you will eat fat until you are gorged and drink blood until you are drunk.
20 ARST It will be as though you are eating at a table that I have set up for you. You will eat all you want of the flesh of horses and their riders, strong soldiers of every kind.’ That is what I, Yahweh the Lord, declare. BSB BSB: And at My table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and warriors of every kind,’ declares the Lord GOD.
21 ARST ‘I will show people of the nations that I am powerful, and all the nations will see how I punish them. BSB BSB: I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them.
22 ARST At that time, the Israelite people will learn that I, Yahweh their God, have the power to do what I say that I will do. BSB BSB: From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.
23 ARST And the people of the other lands will know that the Israelites had been forced to go to other countries because they sinned by not being faithful to me. I turned away from them, and I allowed their enemies to capture them and kill many of them. BSB BSB: And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.
24 ARST I punished them as they deserved because of their disgusting behavior and sins, and I turned away from them. BSB BSB: I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them.
25 ARST Therefore, this is now what I, the Lord Yahweh say: I will now bring back from exile the descendants of Jacob; I will have mercy on all the Israelite people, and I will also make sure that they honor me. BSB BSB: Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name.
26 ARST When the Israelite people are back in their own country, they will live safely in their land, with no one to cause them to be afraid. They will forget about the disgraceful and unfaithful things that they did previously. BSB BSB: They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them.
27 ARST When I have brought them back from their enemies’ countries and gathered them together in Israel, the people of many nations will know how holy I am because of what I did for my people. BSB BSB: When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations.
28 ARST The Israelite people will know that I, Yahweh, have done this. They will know that because I forced them to go to other countries, and then I gathered them together in their own country. I will not leave any of them in those countries. BSB BSB: Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations.
29 ARST I will no longer turn away from them; I will give my Spirit to the Israelite people. This will certainly happen because I, Yahweh the Lord, have said it.” BSB BSB: And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.”
