ARST Now{ at first,} all{ the people on} the earth spoke the same language, so that everyone understood each other. BSB BSB: Now the whole world had one language and a common form of speech.
ARST As time passed, they moved from the eastern{ regions} and{ eventually} came to a wide, flat valley in the region of Shinar and stayed there. BSB BSB: And as people journeyed eastward, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
ARST Then they urged each other,“Come on, let us{ work together and} make bricks{ from clay} and put them in fire to make them hard.” They used bricks{ to build with} instead of stone, and they used tar{ between the bricks} instead of mortar. BSB BSB: And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” So they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
ARST Then they urged{ each other},“Come on, we should{ work together and} build a city for us{ to live in} that has a{ very} tall building that reaches high into the sky.{ That way} we will become famous, and we will not separate from each other{ and live} all over the earth.” BSB BSB: “Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.”
ARST But{ one day} Yahweh came down{ from heaven} and looked at the city and the{ very} tall building that the people were building. BSB BSB: Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men were building.
ARST Then he said,“Look, they are one people{ group}, and they all speak the same language. This{ is}{ only} the beginning of what they can do{ together}. Soon they will be able to do anything they plan to do. BSB BSB: And the LORD said, “If they have begun to do this as one people speaking the same language, then nothing they devise will be beyond them.
ARST { So} we must go down there{ now} and mix up their language so that they are not able to understand what they say to each other.” BSB BSB: Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
ARST In that way, Yahweh caused the people to leave from there and live in different places all over the world, so that they had to stop building the city{ and the tall building}. BSB BSB: So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
ARST That is why the name of the city is Babel,{ which means“mixed up,”} because that is where Yahweh mixed up the language that everyone on the earth shared, and{ in that way} he made them spread out from there all over the earth. 11:10-26 BSB BSB: That is why it is called Babel, for there the LORD confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the earth.

ARST When Nahor was twenty- nine years old, he had{ a son named} Terah. BSB BSB: When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
ARST After Terah was born, Nahor lived{ another} 119 years. He{ also} had{ other} sons, as well as daughters. BSB BSB: And after he had become the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
ARST After Terah was seventy years old, he had{ sons whose names were} Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 11:27-32 BSB BSB: When Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
ARST Here is the history about Terah and his descendants: Terah’ s sons were Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran had a son{ whose name was} Lot. BSB BSB: This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.
ARST While his father was still alive, Haran died in the land where he was born, in{ the city of} Ur where the Chaldean people lived. BSB BSB: During his father Terah’s lifetime, Haran died in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
ARST Meanwhile Abram and Nahor each married a wife. Abram’ s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’ s wife was Milcah. Milcah and{ her sister} Iscah were the daughters of{ Nahor’ s brother} Haran. BSB BSB: And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, who was the father of both Milcah and Iscah.
ARST But Sarai was not able to become pregnant,{ so} she did not have any children. BSB BSB: But Sarai was barren; she had no children.
ARST Then{ one day,} Terah gathered his son Abram and his grandson Lot,{ who was} Haran’ s son, and his daughter- in- law Sarai, who was Abram’ s wife, and they{ all} left from{ the city of} Ur where the Chaldean people lived to travel to the region of Canaan. But when they arrived at{ the city of} Haran, they decided to live there{ instead}. BSB BSB: And Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai the wife of Abram, and they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans for the land of Canaan. But when they arrived in Haran, they settled there. 32 ARST Then{ many years later,} when Terah was 205 years old, he died{ there} in{ the city of} Haran. BSB BSB: Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.
