1 ARST Yahweh also said this to Moses: BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 ARST “Tell the Israelite people,‘Any Israelite or any foreigner who is living in Israel who sacrifices any of his children as an offering to the idol Molech must die. The people of the town must kill him by throwing stones at him. BSB BSB: “Tell the Israelites, ‘Any Israelite or foreigner living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death. The people of the land are to stone him.
3 ARST I will reject such people and cause them to no longer be with my people because he has given his child to Molech, so as to defile my holy place and profane my holy name. BSB BSB: And I will set My face against that man and cut him off from his people, because by giving his offspring to Molech, he has defiled My sanctuary and profaned My holy name.
4 ARST If the people of that man’ s town ignore it when he kills any of his children to offer him to Molech, and if they do not execute that person, BSB BSB: And if the people of the land ever hide their eyes and fail to put to death the man who gives one of his children to Molech,
5 ARST I myself will punish that person and his clan. I will command that he must no longer be with my people. And I will do the same thing to any others who are unfaithful to me and who worship Molech. BSB BSB: then I will set My face against that man and his family and cut off from among their people both him and all who follow him in prostituting themselves with Molech.
6 ARST I will reject those who go to those who consult the spirits of dead people, or who go to fortune tellers who ask spirits to advise them. I will reject such people; they will no longer be with my own people. BSB BSB: Whoever turns to mediums or spiritists to prostitute himself with them, I will also set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.
7 ARST Set yourselves apart for my honor, so that you may belong to me, because I am Yahweh your God. BSB BSB: Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, because I am the LORD your God.
8 ARST Carefully obey everything that I have commanded you. I am Yahweh, the one who sets you apart from the other peoples so that I am honored. BSB BSB: And you shall keep My statutes and practice them. I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
9 ARST If anyone curses his father or his mother, you must execute him. He himself will be responsible for his own death. BSB BSB: If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or mother; his blood shall be upon him.
10 ARST If a man commits adultery with some other man’ s wife, then you must execute both of them, the man and the woman. They have committed adultery. BSB BSB: If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must surely be put to death.
11 ARST If a man sleeps with one of his father’ s wives, he has dishonored his father. So you must execute both that man and woman; they will be responsible for their own deaths. BSB BSB: If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness. Both must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
12 ARST If a man sleeps with his daughter- in- law, you must execute them both. They have exchanged good for evil; they both deserve to die. BSB BSB: If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both must surely be put to death. They have acted perversely; their blood is upon them.
13 ARST If two men have slept together, they have done something detestable. You must execute them both; they will be responsible for their own deaths. BSB BSB: If a man lies with a man as with a woman, they have both committed an abomination. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
14 ARST If a man marries both a woman and her mother, that is a wicked thing. You must burn all three of them to death, in order that no one among you continues to commit such an evil deed. BSB BSB: If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is depraved. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that there will be no depravity among you.
15 ARST If a man sleeps with an animal, you must execute both him and that animal. BSB BSB: If a man lies carnally with an animal, he must be put to death. And you are also to kill the animal.
16 ARST Similarly, if a woman sleeps with an animal, you must execute both her and that animal. They will be responsible for their own deaths. BSB BSB: If a woman approaches any animal to mate with it, you must kill both the woman and the animal. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
17 ARST If a man sleeps with his sister, the daughter of either his mother or his father— if they have slept together, that is disgraceful. They will no longer be with my people. Because he has slept with his sister, he is guilty. BSB BSB: If a man marries his sister, whether the daughter of his father or of his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered the nakedness of his sister; he shall bear his iniquity.
18 ARST If a man sleeps with a woman during her menstrual period, they have both revealed her flowing blood, so neither of them must be with my people anymore. BSB BSB: If a man lies with a menstruating woman and has sexual relations with her, he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has uncovered the source of her blood. Both of them must be cut off from among their people.
19 ARST No man must sleep with the sister of either his father or his mother, because he would be disgracing someone who is a close relative. You must punish such a man, as well as the woman. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with the sister of your mother or your father, for it is exposing one’s own kin; both shall bear their iniquity.
20 ARST If a man sleeps with his uncle’ s wife, he has dishonored his uncle. What for they have done, they must be responsible for their actions. And when they die, their children would be stripped of the rights to any inheritance they would have received from their parents. BSB BSB: If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered the nakedness of his uncle. They will bear their sin; they shall die childless.
21 ARST If a man marries his brother’ s wife, it is a sin because he has dishonored his brother’ s marriage. The rights of inheritance would be stripped away from any children they would have received from from their parents. BSB BSB: If a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity. He has uncovered the nakedness of his brother; they shall be childless.
22 ARST Obey all my decrees and laws carefully, in order that you will not have to leave the land to which I am bringing you. BSB BSB: You are therefore to keep all My statutes and ordinances, so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not vomit you out.
23 ARST Do not imitate the customs of the people of the land from which I am going to drive them out, as you advance into it. I hate them because they have done all those things. BSB BSB: You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them.
24 ARST But I said to you,“You will take their land from them. I will give it to you to be yours, a land that is very fertile. I am Yahweh your God, who has set you apart from the people of other nations.” BSB BSB: But I have told you that you will inherit their land, since I will give it to you as an inheritance—a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples.
26 ARST You must live as a people who are set apart for my honor, because I, Yahweh, am also set apart and I do everything for my honor. I have taken you out of the other nations, because you are mine. BSB BSB: You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own.
27 ARST You must execute any man or woman among you who consults the spirits of dead people or other spirits. Kill them by throwing stones at them; they will be responsible for their own deaths.’” BSB BSB: A man or a woman who is a medium or spiritist must surely be put to death. They shall be stoned; their blood is upon them.’”
