ARST Moses spoke with the leaders of the Israelite tribes. He told them these commands that Yahweh had given to him: BSB BSB: Then Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel, “This is what the LORD has commanded:
ARST “If a man solemnly promises Yahweh that he will do something, he must do what he promised. BSB BSB: If a man makes a vow to the LORD or swears an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word; he must do everything he has promised.
ARST If a young woman who is still living with her parents solemnly promises to Yahweh to do something, BSB BSB: And if a woman in her father’s house during her youth makes a vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a pledge,
ARST and if her father hears about what she promised, and if he does not say anything to her, she must do what she promised. BSB BSB: and her father hears about her vow or pledge but says nothing to her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
ARST But if her father hears about what she promised and does not allow her to do that, then she does not need to do what she promised. Yahweh will forgive her for not doing what she promised. BSB BSB: But if her father prohibits her on the day he hears about it, then none of the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand. The LORD will absolve her because her father has prohibited her.
ARST If a woman promises Yahweh that she will do something, but then she gets married, BSB BSB: If a woman marries while under a vow or rash promise by which she has bound herself,
ARST If she marries a husband while under the vows, or she makes rash utterances by which she obligates herself, they will stand. BSB BSB: and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her on that day, then the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
ARST But if her husband stops her on the day that he hears about it, then he cancels the vow that she has made, the rash talk of her lips with which she has bound herself. Yahweh will release her. BSB BSB: But if her husband prohibits her when he hears of it, he nullifies the vow that binds her or the rash promise she has made, and the LORD will absolve her.
ARST If a widow or a woman who has been divorced makes a promise, she must do what she promised. BSB BSB: Every vow a widow or divorced woman pledges to fulfill is binding on her.
ARST If a woman who is married promises to do something, BSB BSB: If a woman in her husband’s house has made a vow or put herself under an obligation with an oath,
ARST and if her husband hears about it but does not object, she must do what she promised. BSB BSB: and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her and does not prohibit her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
ARST But if he hears about it and does not allow her to do that, she does not need to do what she promised, and Yahweh will forgive her for not doing it. BSB BSB: But if her husband nullifies them on the day he hears of them, then nothing that came from her lips, whether her vows or pledges, shall stand. Her husband has nullified them, and the LORD will absolve her.
ARST A woman’ s husband may require her to do what she has promised, or he may not allow her to do what she has promised. BSB BSB: Her husband may confirm or nullify any vow or any sworn pledge to deny herself.
ARST If he does not object for several days after he hears about it, she must do what she promised. BSB BSB: But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he confirms all the vows and pledges that bind her. He has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard about them.
ARST But if he waits a long time after she has promised to do something and then he tells her that he will not permit her to do it, if she does not do what she promised, she will not be punished. Her husband is the one whom Yahweh will punish.” BSB BSB: But if he nullifies them after he hears of them, then he will bear her iniquity.”
ARST Those are the rules that Yahweh gave to Moses for husbands and wives, and for young women who are still living with their parents. BSB BSB: These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.
