ARST One year after the Israelites left Egypt, on the first month of the second year, while they were in the wilderness of Sinai, Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: In the first month of the second year after Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, the LORD spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai:
ARST “Tell the Israelite people that they must celebrate the Passover festival again. BSB BSB: “The Israelites are to observe the Passover at its appointed time.
ARST They must do it on the fourteenth day of this month, early in the evening, and they must obey all the instructions about it that I gave you previously.” BSB BSB: You are to observe it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month, in accordance with its statutes and ordinances.”
ARST So Moses told the people what Yahweh had said about celebrating the Passover. BSB BSB: So Moses told the Israelites to observe the Passover,
ARST The people celebrated it there in the wilderness of Sinai, in the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and they did so in the Wilderness of Sinai, at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
ARST But some of the Israelite people had touched a corpse, and as a result they had become unfit to celebrate the Passover. So they asked Aaron and Moses, BSB BSB: But there were some men who were unclean due to a dead body, so they could not observe the Passover on that day. And they came before Moses and Aaron that same day
ARST “It is true that we have touched a corpse. But why should that prevent us from celebrating the Passover festival and offering sacrifices to Yahweh like everyone else?” BSB BSB: and said to Moses, “We are unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be excluded from presenting the LORD’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?”
ARST Moses replied,“Wait here until I go into the sacred tent and find out what Yahweh says about it.” BSB BSB: “Wait here until I find out what the LORD commands concerning you,” Moses replied.
ARST So Moses went into the tent and asked Yahweh what he should tell the people, and this is what Yahweh said: BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
ARST “Tell this to the Israelite people:‘If any of you or your descendants touch a corpse and as a result become unacceptable to me, or if you are away from home on a long trip at the time to celebrate the Passover, you will still be permitted to celebrate it. BSB BSB: “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any one of you or your descendants is unclean because of a dead body, or is away on a journey, he may still observe the Passover to the LORD.
ARST But you must celebrate it exactly one month later, early in the evening of the fourteenth day of that month. Eat the meat of the lamb for the Passover festival with bread that is baked without yeast, and eat bitter herbs. BSB BSB: Such people are to observe it at twilight on the fourteenth day of the second month. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs;
ARST Do not leave any of it until the next morning. And do not break any of the lamb’ s bones. Obey all the regulations about celebrating the Passover. BSB BSB: they may not leave any of it until morning or break any of its bones. They must observe the Passover according to all its statutes.
ARST But if any of you has not done anything that would make you unfit to celebrate the Passover festival, and you are not away from home on a long trip, and you do not sacrifice to me at the proper time, you will no longer belong to my people. You will be punished. BSB BSB: But if a man who is ceremonially clean and is not on a journey still fails to observe the Passover, he must be cut off from his people, because he did not present the LORD’s offering at its appointed time. That man will bear the consequences of his sin.
ARST Settled foreigners who live among you must also celebrate the Passover festival and obey all my commands concerning it.’” BSB BSB: If a foreigner dwelling among you wants to observe the Passover to the LORD, he is to do so according to the Passover statute and its ordinances. You are to apply the same statute to both the foreigner and the native of the land.’”
ARST On the day that the sacred tent where the Ten Commandments were was set up, a cloud covered it. But from the time that the sun set until the time that the sun rose the next day, the cloud resembled a huge fire. BSB BSB: On the day that the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it and appeared like fire above the tabernacle from evening until morning.
ARST And that is what happened every day that the Israelites were in the wilderness. The cloud would cover it during the day and resemble a huge for during the night. BSB BSB: It remained that way continually; the cloud would cover the tabernacle by day, and at night it would appear like fire.
ARST When the cloud rose up and started to move to a new location, the Israelites followed it. When the cloud stopped, the Israelites stopped there and set up their tents. BSB BSB: Whenever the cloud was lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites would set out, and wherever the cloud settled, there the Israelites would camp.
ARST The Israelites moved when Yahweh told them to move and stopped when Yahweh told them to stop by causing the cloud to move or stop. When the cloud stayed over the sacred tent, the Israelites stayed at that place. BSB BSB: At the LORD’s command the Israelites set out, and at the LORD’s command they camped. As long as the cloud remained over the tabernacle, they remained encamped.
ARST Sometimes the cloud stayed over the sacred tent for a long time, so when that happened, the Israelites did not move. BSB BSB: Even when the cloud lingered over the tabernacle for many days, the Israelites kept the LORD’s charge and did not set out.
ARST Sometimes the cloud remained over the sacred tent for only a few days. The people stopped and set up their tents as Yahweh commanded them, and they moved to a new location when Yahweh commanded them to do that. BSB BSB: Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days, and they would camp at the LORD’s command and set out at the LORD’s command.
ARST Sometimes the cloud stayed in one place for only one day. When that happened, when the cloud rose up into the sky the next morning, then the people moved. Whenever the cloud moved, during the day or during the night, the people moved. BSB BSB: Sometimes the cloud remained only from evening until morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they would set out. Whether it was by day or by night, when the cloud was taken up, they would set out.
ARST If the cloud stayed over the sacred tent for two days, or for a month, or for a year, during that time the people stayed where they were. But when the cloud rose up into the sky, they started to move. BSB BSB: Whether the cloud lingered for two days, a month, or longer, the Israelites camped and did not set out as long as the cloud remained over the tabernacle; but when it was lifted, they would set out.
ARST When Yahweh commanded them to stop and set up their tents, they did that. When he told them to move, they moved. They did whatever Yahweh told Moses they should do. BSB BSB: They camped at the LORD’s command, and they set out at the LORD’s command; they carried out the LORD’s charge according to His command through Moses.
