2 ULB এর আগে যখন শৌল রাজা ছিলেন তখন যুদ্ধের সময় আপনিই ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সৈন্য পরিচালনা করতেন; আর আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু আপনাকে বলেছেন যেন আপনিই তাঁর লোকদের, অর্থাৎ ইস্রায়েলীয়দের দেখাশোনা করবেন ও তাদের নেতা হবেন।” BSB BSB: Even in times past, while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And the LORD your God said, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
3 ULB এইভাবে ইস্রায়েল দেশের সমস্ত প্রাচীনেরা হিব্রোণে রাজার কাছে এলেন। তখন দায়ূদ সদাপ্রভুকে সাক্ষী রেখে তাঁদের সঙ্গে একটা চুক্তি করলেন, আর শমূয়েলের মধ্য দিয়ে বলা সদাপ্রভুর কথা অনুসারে তাঁরা দায়ূদকে ইস্রায়েল দেশের উপর রাজা হিসাবে অভিষেক করলেন। BSB BSB: So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, where David made a covenant with them before the LORD. And they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD through Samuel.
4 ULB পরে দায়ূদ ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যিরূশালেমে, অর্থাৎ যিবূষে গেলেন। যিবূষীয়েরা সেখানে বাস করত। BSB BSB: Then David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus), where the Jebusites inhabited the land.
5 ULB তারা দায়ূদকে বলল, “তুমি এখানে ঢুকতে পারবে না।” তবুও দায়ূদ সিয়োনের দুর্গটা অধিকার করলেন। সেটাই দায়ূদ শহর। BSB BSB: The people of Jebus said to David, “You will never get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion (that is, the City of David).
6 ULB দায়ূদ বলেছিলেন, “যে লোক প্রথমে যিবূষীয়দের আক্রমণ করবে সেই হবে প্রধান সেনাপতি।” এতে সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াব প্রথমে আক্রমণ করতে গেলেন, আর সেইজন্য তাঁকে প্রধান সেনাপতি করা হল। BSB BSB: Now David had said, “Whoever is the first to strike down a Jebusite will become chief commander.” And Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and he became the chief.
7 ULB এর পর দায়ূদ সেই দুর্গে বাস করতে লাগলেন; সেইজন্য লোকেরা তাঁর নাম দায়ূদ শহর রাখল। BSB BSB: So David took up residence in the fortress; that is why it was called the City of David.
8 ULB তিনি মিল্লোর কাছে শহর গড়ে তুললেন এবং যোয়াব শহরের বাদবাকী অংশ মেরামত করলেন। BSB BSB: He built up the city around it, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city.
9 ULB দায়ূদ দিনে দিনে আরও মহান হয়ে উঠলেন, কারণ বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন। BSB BSB: And David became greater and greater, for the LORD of Hosts was with him.
10 ULB সদাপ্রভুর প্রতিজ্ঞা অনুসারে দায়ূদ যাতে গোটা দেশটার উপর তাঁর অধিকার স্থাপন করতে পারেন সেইজন্য তাঁর শক্তিশালী লোকদের মধ্যে যাঁরা প্রধান ছিলেন তারা সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে মিলে তাঁর পক্ষ নিয়ে তাঁর রাজকীয় ক্ষমতাকে বাড়িয়ে তুললেন। BSB BSB: Now these were the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who, together with all Israel, bolstered and strengthened his kingdom, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
11 ULB দায়ূদের বীরদের সংখ্যা এই; যাশবিয়াম নামে হক্মোনীয়দের একজন ছেলে ছিলেন, ত্রিশ জন বীর যোদ্ধাদের দলের প্রধান। তিনি বর্শা চালিয়ে একই সময়ে তিনশো লোককে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। BSB BSB: This is the list of David’s mighty men: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni was chief of the officers; he wielded his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed at one time.
12 ULB তাঁর পরের জন ছিলেন ইলিয়াসর। ইনি ছিলেন অহোহীয় দোদোরের ছেলে। নাম করা তিনজন বীরের মধ্যে ইনি ছিলেন একজন। BSB BSB: Next in command was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men.
13 ULB পলেষ্টীয়েরা যখন যুদ্ধের জন্য পস্ দম্মীমে জড়ো হয়েছিল তখন ইলিয়াসর দায়ূদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন। একটা জায়গায় যবে ভরা একটা ক্ষেতে ইস্রায়েলীয় সৈন্যেরা পলেষ্টীয়দের সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেল। BSB BSB: He was with David at Pas-dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At a place with a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines.
14 ULB তারা সেই ক্ষেতের মাঝখানে গিয়ে দাঁড়ালেন। তাঁরা সেই ক্ষেতটা রক্ষা করলেন এবং পলেষ্টীয়দের শেষ করে দিলেন। সেই দিন সদাপ্রভু তাঁদের রক্ষা করলেন ও মহাজয় দান করলেন। BSB BSB: But Eleazar and David stationed themselves in the middle of the field and defended it. They struck down the Philistines, and the LORD brought about a great victory.
15 ULB ত্রিশজন বীরের মধ্যে তিনজন অদুল্লম গুহার কাছে যে পাথরটা ছিল সেখানে দায়ূদের কাছে আসলেন। তখন পলেষ্টীয়দের সৈন্যরা রফায়ীম উপত্যকায় ছাউনি ফেলে ছিল। BSB BSB: Three of the thirty chief men went down to David, to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a company of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
16 ULB সেই সময় দায়ূদ দুর্গম জায়গায় ছিলেন আর পলেষ্টীয় সৈন্যদল ছিল বৈৎলেহমে। BSB BSB: At that time David was in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was at Bethlehem.
17 ULB এমন সময় দায়ূদের খুব পিপাসিত হলেন এবং বললেন, “হায়! কে আমাকে বৈৎলেহমের দরজার কাছের কূয়োর জল এনে পান করতে দেবে?” BSB BSB: David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!”
18 ULB এই কথা শুনে সেই তিনজন বীর পলেষ্টীয় সৈন্যদলের ভিতর দিয়ে গিয়ে বৈৎলেহমের ফটকের কাছের কূয়াটা থেকে জল তুলে দায়ূদের কাছে নিয়ে গেলেন। কিন্তু দায়ূদ তা পান করতে রাজি হলেন না; তার বদলে তিনি সেই জল সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে ঢেলে ফেলে দিলেন। BSB BSB: So the Three broke through the Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
19 ULB আর বললেন, “হে ঈশ্বর, আমি যে এই জল খাব তা দূরে থাক্। এই লোকেরা, যারা তাদের প্রাণের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে গিয়েছিল তাদের রক্ত কি আমি খাব?” তাঁরা তাঁদের প্রাণের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে সেই জল এনেছিল বলে দায়ূদ তা পান করতে রাজী হলেন না। সেই তিনজন নাম করা বীর এই সব কাজ করেছিল। BSB BSB: saying, “Far be it from me, my God, to do this! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” Because they had brought it at the risk of their lives, David refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.
20 ULB যোয়াবের ভাই অবীশয় ছিলেন সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে প্রধান। তিনি বর্শা চালিয়ে তিনশো লোককে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন এবং তিনিও ঐ তিনজনের মত নাম করা হয়ে উঠেছিলেন। BSB BSB: Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the Three, and he wielded his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name along with the Three.
21 ULB তিনি সেই তিনজনের চেয়ে আরও বেশী সম্মান পেয়েছিলেন এবং তাঁদের সেনাপতি হয়েছিলেন, অথচ তিন জনের সমান ছিলেন না। BSB BSB: He was doubly honored above the Three, and he became their commander, even though he was not included among the Three.
22 ULB কব্সেলীয় যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় ছিলেন একজন বীর যোদ্ধা। তিনিও বড় বড় কাজ করেছিলেন। মোয়াবীয় অরিয়েলের দুই ছেলেকে তিনি মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। এক তুষার পড়া দিনে তিনি একটা গর্তের মধ্যে নেমে গিয়ে একটা সিংহকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। BSB BSB: And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
23 ULB আবার একজন পাঁচ হাত (সাড়ে সাত ফুট) লম্বা মিসরীয়কে তিনি মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। সেই মিসরীয়ের হাতে ছিল তাঁতীর বীমের মত একটা বর্শা, কিন্তু তবুও তিনি লাঠি হাতে তার দিকে এগিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন। সেই মিসরীয়ের হাত থেকে বর্শাটা কেড়ে নিয়ে তিনি সেই বর্শা দিয়ে তাকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। BSB BSB: He also struck down an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club, snatched the spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own spear.
24 ULB যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় এই সব কাজ করলেন। তিনিও সেই তিনজন বীরের মধ্যে নাম করা হয়ে উঠেছিলেন। BSB BSB: These were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who won a name along with the three mighty men.
25 ULB সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে তাঁকে ধরা না হলেও তিনি ত্রিশজনের থেকে বেশি সম্মানীয় ছিলেন। দায়ূদ তাঁর দেহরক্ষীদের ভার বনায়ের উপরেই দিয়েছিলেন। BSB BSB: He was most honored among the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. And David appointed him over his guard.
26 ULB সেই শক্তিশালী লোকেরা হলেন যোয়াবের ভাই অসাহেল, বৈৎলেহমের দোদোর ছেলে ইল্হানন, BSB BSB: Now these were the mighty men: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
