4 ULB “আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর একটা ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু এখন আপনি আমাদের উপর চাপানো সেই কঠিন পরিশ্রম কমিয়ে ভারী যোঁয়ালটা হালকা করে দিন; তাহলে আমরা আপনার সেবা করব।” BSB BSB: “Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you must lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
5 ULB উত্তরে রহবিয়াম বললেন, “তোমরা এখন চলে যাও, তিন দিন পর আমার কাছে আবার এসো।” তাতে লোকেরা চলে গেল। BSB BSB: Rehoboam answered, “Go away for three days and then return to me.” So the people departed.
6 ULB যে সব বৃদ্ধ নেতারা তাঁর বাবা শলোমনের জীবনকালে তাঁর সেবা করতেন রহবিয়াম তাঁদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করবার জন্য বললেন, “এই লোকদের উত্তর দেবার জন্য আপনারা আমাকে কি পরামর্শ দেন?” BSB BSB: Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you advise me to respond to these people?” he asked.
7 ULB উত্তরে তাঁরা তাঁকে বললেন, “আজকে যদি আপনি এই সব লোকদের সেবাকারী হয়ে তাদের সেবা করেন এবং তাদের অনুরোধ রক্ষা করেন তবে তারা সব সময় আপনার দাস হয়ে থাকবে।” BSB BSB: They replied, “If you will be a servant to these people and serve them this day, and if you will respond by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”
8 ULB কিন্তু রহবিয়াম বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে সেই সব যুবকদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন যারা তাঁর সঙ্গে বড় হয়েছিল এবং তাঁর সেবা করত। BSB BSB: But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders; instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up with him and served him.
9 ULB তিনি তাদের বললেন, “লোকেরা বলছে, ‘আপনার বাবা যে ভারী যোঁয়াল আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন তা হালকা করুন।’ এই ব্যাপারে তোমাদের পরামর্শ কি? আমরা তাদের কি উত্তর দেব?” BSB BSB: He asked them, “What message do you advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
10 ULB উত্তরে সেই যুবকেরা বলল, “যে সব লোকেরা আপনার বাবার চাপিয়ে দেওয়া ভারী যোঁয়াল হালকা করে দেবার কথা বলেছে তাদের আপনি বলুন যে, আপনার বাবার কোমরের চেয়েও আপনার কড়ে আঙ্গুলটা মোটা। BSB BSB: The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you must make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!
11 ULB এখন আমার বাবা তোমাদের উপর যে ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন তা আমি আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন চাবুক দিয়ে কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের মারব কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে।” BSB BSB: Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.’”
12 ULB পরে তৃতীয় দিনে আমার কাছে ফিরে এস, রাজার বলা এই কথা অনুসারে যারবিয়াম এবং সব লোক রহবিয়ামের কাছে তৃতীয় দিনে এল। BSB BSB: After three days, Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”
13 ULB রাজা বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে লোকদের খুব কড়া উত্তর দিলেন। BSB BSB: And the king answered the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the elders
14 ULB তিনি সেই যুবকদের পরামর্শ মত বললেন, “আমার বাবা তোমাদের যোঁয়াল ভারী করেছিলেন, আমি তা আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা চাবুক দিয়ে তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন, আমি তোমাদের শাস্তি দেব কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে।” BSB BSB: and spoke to them as the young men had advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.”
15 ULB এইভাবে রাজা লোকদের কথায় কান দিলেন না। কারণ শীলোনীয় অহিয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে সদাপ্রভু নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামকে যে কথা বলেছিলেন তা পূর্ণ করবার জন্য সদাপ্রভু থেকেই এই ঘটনাটা ঘটল। BSB BSB: So the king did not listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word He had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
16 ULB ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যখন বুঝল যে, রাজা তাদের কথা শুনবেন না তখন তারা রাজাকে বলল, “দায়ূদের উপর আমাদের কোনো দাবি নেই। যিশয়ের ছেলের উপর আমাদের কোনো অধিকার নেই। হে ইস্রায়েল, তোমরা নিজের তাঁবুতে ফিরে যাও। হে দায়ূদ, এখন তোমার নিজের গোষ্ঠী তুমি নিজেই দেখ।” কাজেই ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যে যার বাড়ীতে ফিরে গেল। BSB BSB: When all Israel saw that the king had refused to listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So the Israelites went home,
17 ULB তবে যিহূদা গোষ্ঠীর গ্রাম ও শহরগুলোতে যে সব ইস্রায়েলীয় বাস করত রহবিয়াম তাদের উপরে রাজত্ব করতে থাকলেন। BSB BSB: but Rehoboam still reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of Judah.
18 ULB যাদের কাজ করতে বাধ্য করা হত তাদের ভার যার উপরে ছিল সেই অদোরামকে রাজা রহবিয়াম ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন, কিন্তু তারা তাকে পাথর ছুঁড়ে মেরে ফেলল। তখন রাজা রহবিয়াম তাড়াতাড়ি তাঁর রথে উঠে যিরূশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন। BSB BSB: Then King Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King Rehoboam mounted his chariot in haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
19 ULB এইভাবে ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা দায়ূদের বংশের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করল; অবস্থাটা আজও তাই আছে। BSB BSB: So to this day Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David.
20 ULB যারবিয়ামের ফিরে আসবার খবর শুনে ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে তাদের সভায় ডেকে আনল এবং সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়দের উপর তারা তাঁকেই রাজা করল। কেবল যিহূদা বংশের লোকেরা ছাড়া আর কোনো বংশ দায়ূদের বংশের প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থাকল না। BSB BSB: When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
21 ULB যিরূশালেমে পৌঁছে রহবিয়াম যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠীর সমস্ত লোককে যুদ্ধের জন্য জড়ো করলেন। তাতে এক লক্ষ আশি হাজার সৈন্য হল। এটা করা হল যাতে ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করে রাজ্যটা আবার শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামের হাতে নিয়ে আসা যায়। BSB BSB: And when Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mobilized the whole house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.
22 ULB কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের লোক শময়িয়ের কাছে ঈশ্বরের এই বাক্য প্রকাশিত হল, BSB BSB: But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God:
23 ULB তুমি যিহূদার রাজা শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামকে, যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীনের সমস্ত বংশকে এবং বাকী সব লোকদের বল যে, BSB BSB: “Tell Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah, all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people
24 ULB “সদাপ্রভু বলেন, তোমরা যেও না, তোমাদের ভাইদের সাথে, ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ কর না; প্রত্যেকজন নিজের নিজের ঘরে ফিরে যাও, কারণ এই ঘটনা আমার মাধ্যমে হল।” অতএব তারা সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য মেনে তাঁর আদেশ অনুসারে ফিরে গেল। BSB BSB: that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers, the Israelites. Each of you must return home, for this is My doing.’” So they listened to the word of the LORD and turned back according to the word of the LORD.
25 ULB পরে যারবিয়াম ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী এলাকার শিখিম গড়ে নিয়ে সেখানে বাস করতে লাগলেন। তিনি সেখান থেকে গিয়ে পনূয়েলও দুর্গের মত করে গড়ে নিলেন। BSB BSB: Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim and lived there. And from there he went out and built Penuel.
26 ULB যারবিয়াম ভাবলেন, “এবার হয়তো রাজ্যটা আবার দায়ূদের বংশের হাতে ফিরে যাবে। BSB BSB: Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom might revert to the house of David.
27 ULB লোকেরা যদি যিরূশালেমে সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা ঘরে উৎসর্গ করার জন্য যায় তবে আবার তারা তাদের প্রভু যিহূদার রাজা রহবিয়ামের অধীনতা মেনে নেবে। তারা আমাকে মেরে ফেলে রাজা রহবিয়ামের কাছে ফিরে যাবে।” BSB BSB: If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, their hearts will return to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah; then they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”
29 ULB বাছুর দুটার একটাকে তিনি রাখলেন বৈথেলে এবং অন্যটাকে রাখলেন দানে, BSB BSB: One calf he set up in Bethel, and the other in Dan.
30 ULB তাই লোকেরা পূজা করবার জন্য দান পর্যন্তও যেতে লাগল। এই ব্যাপারটা তাদের পাপের কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়াল। BSB BSB: And this thing became a sin; the people walked as far as Dan to worship before one of the calves.
31 ULB যারবিয়াম উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে মন্দির তৈরী করলেন এবং এমন সব লোকদের মধ্য থেকে যাজক নিযুক্ত করলেন যারা লেবির বংশের লোক ছিল না। BSB BSB: Jeroboam also built shrines on the high places and appointed from every class of people priests who were not Levites.
32 ULB যিহূদা এলাকার মধ্যে যে পর্ব হত সেই পর্বের মত অষ্টম মাসের পনের দিনের দিন তিনি বৈথেলেও একটা পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং নিজের তৈরী বাছুরের উদ্দেশ্যে বেদীর উপর পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। তিনি বৈথেলে পূজার উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে তাঁর তৈরী মন্দিরে যাজকও নিযুক্ত করলেন। BSB BSB: And Jeroboam ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in Bethel to sacrifice to the calves he had set up, and he installed priests in Bethel for the high places he had set up.
33 ULB অষ্টম মাসের পনেরো দিনের দিন বৈথেলে তাঁর তৈরী বেদীতে তিনি পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। সময়টা তাঁর নিজেরই বেছে নেওয়া। এইভাবে তিনি ইস্রায়েলীয়দের জন্য পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং ধূপ জ্বালাবার জন্য বেদীতে উঠলেন। BSB BSB: On the fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing, Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had set up in Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the Israelites, offered sacrifices on the altar, and burned incense.
