2 ULB একসময়ে বিকালে দায়ূদ বিছানা থেকে উঠে রাজবাড়ির ছাদে বেড়াচ্ছিলেন, আর ছাদ থেকে দেখতে পেলেন যে, একটি মহিলা স্নান করছে; মহিলাটি দেখতে খুব সুন্দরী ছিল৷ BSB BSB: One evening David got up from his bed and strolled around on the roof of the palace. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing—a very beautiful woman.
3 ULB দায়ূদ তার বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করতে লোক পাঠালেন৷ একজন বলল, “এ কি ইলিয়ামের মেয়ে, হিত্তীয় ঊরিয়ের স্ত্রী বৎশেবা নয়?” BSB BSB: So David sent and inquired about the woman, and he was told, “This is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
4 ULB তখন দায়ূদ লোক পাঠিয়ে তাকে আনলেন এবং সে তাঁর কাছে আসলে দায়ূদ তার সঙ্গে শয়ন করলেন; সে স্ত্রী ঋতুস্নান করে শুচি হয়েছিল৷ পরে সে নিজের ঘরে ফিরে গেলে, BSB BSB: Then David sent messengers to get her, and when she came to him, he slept with her. (Now she had just purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she returned home.
5 ULB পরে সেই স্ত্রী গর্ভবতী হল; আর লোক পাঠিয়ে দায়ূদকে এই খবর দিল, “আমার গর্ভ হয়েছে৷” BSB BSB: And the woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”
6 ULB তখন দায়ূদ যোয়াবের কাছে লোক পাঠিয়ে এই আদেশ দিলেন, “হিত্তীয় ঊরিয়কে আমার কাছে পাঠিয়ে দাও৷” তাতে যোয়াব দায়ূদের কাছে ঊরিয়কে পাঠালেন৷ BSB BSB: At this, David sent orders to Joab: “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent him to David.
7 ULB ঊরিয় তাঁর কাছে উপস্থিত হলে দায়ূদ তাকে যোয়াবের খবর, লোকদের খবর ও যুদ্ধের খবর জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন৷ BSB BSB: When Uriah came to him, David asked how Joab and the troops were doing and how the war was going.
8 ULB পরে দায়ূদ ঊরিয়কে বললেন, “তুমি নিজের বাড়িতে গিয়ে পা ধোও৷” তখন ঊরিয় রাজবাড়ি থেকে বেরিয়ে গেল, আর রাজার কাছ থেকে তার পিছনে পিছনে উপহার গেল৷ BSB BSB: Then he said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king followed him.
9 ULB কিন্তু ঊরিয় নিজের প্রভুর দাসদের সঙ্গে রাজবাড়ির ফটকে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ল, ঘরে গেল না৷ BSB BSB: But Uriah slept at the door of the palace with all his master’s servants; he did not go down to his house.
10 ULB পরে এই কথা দায়ূদকে বলা হল যে, “ঊরিয় ঘরে যায় নি৷” দায়ূদ ঊরিয়কে বললেন, “তুমি কি পথ ঘুরে আসো নি? তবে কেন বাড়িতে গেলে না?” BSB BSB: And David was told, “Uriah did not go home.” “Haven’t you just arrived from a journey?” David asked Uriah. “Why didn’t you go home?”
11 ULB ঊরিয় দায়ূদকে বলল, “সিন্দুক, ইস্রায়েল ও যিহুদা কুটীরে বাস করছে এবং আমার প্রভু যোয়াব ও আমার প্রভুর দাসরা খোলা মাঠে ছাউনী করে আছেন; তবে আমি কি খাওয়া-দাওয়া করতে ও স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে শুতে নিজের ঘরে যেতে পারি? আপনার জীবনের ও আপনার জীবিত প্রাণের দিব্যি, আমি এমন কাজ করব না৷” BSB BSB: Uriah answered, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master Joab and his soldiers are camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!”
12 ULB তখন দায়ূদ ঊরিয়কে বললেন, “আজও তুমি এখানে থাক, কাল তোমাকে বিদায় করব৷” তাতে ঊরিয় সে দিন ও পরের দিন যিরূশালেমে থাকল৷ BSB BSB: “Stay here one more day,” David said to Uriah, “and tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next.
13 ULB আর দায়ূদ তাকে নিমন্ত্রণ করলে সে তাঁর সামনে খাওয়া-দাওয়া করল; আর তিনি তাকে মাতাল করলেন; কিন্তু সে সন্ধ্যাবেলা নিজের প্রভুর দাসদের সঙ্গে নিজের বিছানায় ঘুমানোর জন্য বাইরে গেল, ঘরে গেল না৷ BSB BSB: Then David invited Uriah to eat and drink with him, and he got Uriah drunk. And in the evening Uriah went out to lie down on his cot with his master’s servants, but he did not go home.
14 ULB সকালে দায়ূদ যোয়াবের কাছে এক চিঠি লিখে ঊরিয়ের হাতে দিয়ে পাঠালেন৷ BSB BSB: The next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.
15 ULB চিঠিতে তিনি লিখেছিলেন, “তোমরা এই ঊরিয়কে তুমুল যুদ্ধের সামনে নিযুক্ত কর, পরে এর পিছন থেকে সরে যাও, যেন এ আহত হয়ে মারা যায়৷” BSB BSB: In the letter he wrote: “Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest battle; then withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and killed.”
16 ULB পরে কোন জায়গায় শক্তিশালী লোক আছে, তা জানাতে যোয়াব নগর অবরোধের সময় সেই জায়গায় ঊরিয়কে নিযুক্ত করলেন৷ BSB BSB: So as Joab besieged the city, he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew the strongest enemy soldiers were.
17 ULB পরে নগরের লোকেরা বেরিয়ে গিয়ে যোয়াবের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করলে কয়েক জন লোক, দায়ূদের দাসদের মধ্যে কয়েক জন, পড়ে গেল, বিশেষত হিত্তীয় ঊরিয়ও মারা গেল৷ BSB BSB: And when the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of David’s servants fell, and Uriah the Hittite also died.
18 ULB পরে যোয়াব লোক পাঠিয়ে যুদ্ধের সমস্ত ঘটনা দায়ূদকে জানালেন, BSB BSB: Joab sent to David a full account of the battle
19 ULB আর দূত আদেশ করলেন, “তুমি রাজার সামনে যুদ্ধের সমস্ত ঘটনা শেষ করলে, BSB BSB: and instructed the messenger, “When you have finished giving the king a full account of the battle,
20 ULB যদি রাজা রেগে যায়, আর যদি তিনি বলেন, তোমরা যুদ্ধ করতে নগরের এত কাছে কেন গিয়েছিলে? তারা দেওয়ালের উপর থেকে তির মারবে এটা কি জানতে না? BSB BSB: if the king’s anger flares, he may ask you, ‘Why did you get so close to the city to fight? Did you not realize they would shoot from atop the wall?
21 ULB যিরূব্বেশতের ছেলে অবীমেলককে কে আঘাত করেছিল? তেবেষে একটা মহিলা যাঁতার একটি উপরের পাট প্রাচীর থেকে তার উপরে ফেলে দিলে সে কি তাতেই মারা যায় নি? তোমরা কেন দেওয়ালের কাছে গিয়েছিলে? তা হলে তুমি বলবে, আপনার দাস হিত্তীয় ঊরিয় মারা গেছে৷” BSB BSB: Who struck Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who dropped an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you get so close to the wall?’ If he asks you this, then you are to say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead as well.’”
22 ULB পরে সেই দূত সেখান থেকে গিয়ে যোয়াবের প্রেরিত সমস্ত কথা দায়ূদকে জানাল৷ BSB BSB: So the messenger set out and reported to David all that Joab had sent him to say.
23 ULB দূত দায়ূদকে বলল, “সেই লোকেরা আমাদের বিপক্ষে প্রবল হয়ে মাঠে আমাদের কাছে বাইরে এসেছিল; তখন আমাদের ফটকের দরজা পর্যন্ত তাদের পিছু পিছু তাড়া করেছিলাম৷ BSB BSB: The messenger said to David, “The men overpowered us and came out against us in the field, but we drove them back to the entrance of the gate.
24 ULB তখন ধনুকধারীরা প্রাচীর থেকে আপনার দাসদের উপরে তির ছুড়ল; তাই মহারাজের কিছু দাস মারা পড়েছে; আর আপনার দাস হিত্তীয় ঊরিয়ও মারা গেছে৷” BSB BSB: Then the archers shot at your servants from the wall, and some of the king’s servants were killed. And your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead as well.”
25 ULB তখন দায়ূদ দূতকে বললেন, “যোয়াবকে এই কথা বলো, ‘তুমি এতে অসন্তুষ্ট হয়ো না, কারণ তরোয়াল যেমন এক জনকে তেমনি আরও এক জনকেও গ্রাস করে; তুমি নগরের বিরুদ্ধে আরও পরাক্রমের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ কর, নগর উচ্ছেদ কর,’ এইভাবে তাকে আশ্বাস দেবে৷” BSB BSB: Then David told the messenger, “Say this to Joab: ‘Do not let this matter upset you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Strengthen your attack against the city and demolish it.’ Encourage him with these words.”
26 ULB আর উরিয়ের স্ত্রী নিজের স্বামী উরিয়ের মৃত্যুর খবর পেয়ে স্বামীর জন্য শোক করল৷ BSB BSB: When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.
27 ULB পরে শোক অতীত হলে, দায়ূদ লোক পাঠিয়ে তাকে নিজের বাড়িতে আনলেন, তাতে সে তাঁর স্ত্রী হল ও তাঁর জন্য ছেলের জন্ম দিল৷ কিন্তু দায়ূদের করা এই কাজ সদাপ্রভু খারাপ চোখে দেখলেন৷ BSB BSB: And when the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the LORD.
