A Prophecy against Mount Seir 1 Brenton And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, BSB BSB: Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Brenton Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it, BSB BSB: “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,
Brenton and say to it, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against thee, and will make thee a waste, and thou shalt be made desolate. BSB BSB: and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Mount Seir. I will stretch out My hand against you and make you a desolate waste.
Brenton And I will cause desolation in thy cities, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord. BSB BSB: I will turn your cities into ruins, and you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Brenton Because thou hast been a perpetual enemy, and hast laid wait craftily for the house of Israel, with the hand of enemies with a sword, in the time of injustice, at the last: BSB BSB: Because you harbored an ancient hatred and delivered the Israelites over to the sword in the time of their disaster at the final stage of their punishment,
Brenton Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, verily thou hast sinned even to blood, therefore blood shall pursue thee. BSB BSB: therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, it will pursue you.
Brenton And I will make mount Seir a waste, and desolate, and I will destroy from off it men and cattle: BSB BSB: I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and will cut off from it those who come and go.
Brenton and I will fill thy hills and thy valleys with slain men, and in all thy plains there shall fall in thee men slain with the sword. BSB BSB: I will fill its mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines.
Brenton I will make thee a perpetual desolation, and thy cities shall not be inhabited any more: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord. BSB BSB: I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Brenton Because thou saidst, The two nations and the two countries shall be mine, and I shall inherit them; whereas the Lord is there: BSB BSB: Because you have said, ‘These two nations and countries will be ours, and we will possess them,’ even though the LORD was there,
Brenton therefore, as I live, saith the Lord, I will even deal with thee according to thine enmity, and I will be made known to thee when I shall judge thee: BSB BSB: therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred against them, and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.
Brenton and thou shalt know that I am the Lord. I have heard the voice of thy blasphemies, whereas thou hast said, The desert mountains of Israel are given to us for food; BSB BSB: Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard every contemptuous word you uttered against the mountains of Israel when you said, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to devour!’
Brenton and thou hast spoken swelling words against me with thy mouth: I have heard them . BSB BSB: You boasted against Me with your mouth and multiplied your words against Me. I heard it Myself!
Brenton Thus saith the Lord; When all the earth is rejoicing, I will make thee desert. BSB BSB: This is what the Lord GOD says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.
Brenton Thou shalt be desert, O mount Seir, and all Idumea; and it shall be utterly consumed: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord their God. BSB BSB: As you rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate, so will I do to you. You will become a desolation, O Mount Seir, and so will all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
