Judgment on the Nations 1 Brenton Draw near, ye nations; and hearken, ye princes; let the earth hear, and they that are in it; the world, and the people that are therein. BSB BSB: Come near, O nations, to listen; pay attention, O peoples. Let the earth hear, and all that fills it, the world and all that springs from it.
2 Brenton For the wrath of the Lord is upon all nations, and his anger upon the number of them, to destroy them, and give them up to slaughter. BSB BSB: The LORD is angry with all the nations and furious with all their armies. He will devote them to destruction; He will give them over to slaughter.
3 Brenton And their slain shall be cast forth, and their corpses; and their ill savour shall come up, and the mountains shall be made wet with their blood. BSB BSB: Their slain will be left unburied, and the stench of their corpses will rise; the mountains will flow with their blood.
4 Brenton And all the powers of the heavens shall melt, and the sky shall be rolled up like a scroll: and all the stars shall fall like leaves from a vine, and as leaves fall from a fig-tree. BSB BSB: All the stars of heaven will be dissolved. The skies will be rolled up like a scroll, and all their stars will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like foliage from the fig tree.
Judgment on Edom (Isaiah 21:11–12)
5 Brenton My sword has been made drunk in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and with judgment upon the people doomed to destruction. BSB BSB: When My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens, then it will come down upon Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction.
6 Brenton The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is glutted with fat, with the blood of goats and lambs, and with the fat of goats and rams: for the Lord has a sacrifice in Bosor, and a great slaughter in Idumea. BSB BSB: The sword of the LORD is bathed in blood. It drips with fat—with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
7 Brenton And the mighty ones shall fall with them, and the rams and the bulls; and the land shall be soaked with blood, and shall be filled with their fat. BSB BSB: And the wild oxen will fall with them, the young bulls with the strong ones. Their land will be drenched with blood, and their soil will be soaked with fat.
8 Brenton For it is the day of the judgment of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgment. BSB BSB: For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
9 Brenton And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day; BSB BSB: Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a blazing pitch.
10 Brenton and it shall never be quenched, and her smoke shall go up: it shall be made desolate throughout her generations, BSB BSB: It will not be quenched—day or night. Its smoke will ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever again pass through it.
11 Brenton and for a long time birds and hedgehogs, and ibises and ravens shall dwell in it: and the measuring line of desolation shall be cast over it, and satyrs shall dwell in it. BSB BSB: The desert owl and screech owl will possess it, and the great owl and raven will dwell in it. The LORD will stretch out over Edom a measuring line of chaos and a plumb line of destruction.
12 Brenton Her princes shall be no more; for her kings and her great men shall be destroyed. BSB BSB: No nobles will be left to proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to nothing.
13 Brenton And thorns shall spring up in their cities, and in her strong holds: and they shall be habitations of monsters, and a court for ostriches. BSB BSB: Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
14 Brenton And devils shall meet with satyrs, and they shall cry one to the other: there shall satyrs rest, having found for themselves a place of rest. BSB BSB: The desert creatures will meet with hyenas, and one wild goat will call to another. There the night creature will settle and find her place of repose.
15 Brenton There has the hedgehog made its nest, and the earth has safely preserved its young: there have the deer met, and seen one another's faces. BSB BSB: There the owl will make her nest; she will lay and hatch her eggs and gather her brood under her shadow. Even there the birds of prey will gather, each with its mate.
16 Brenton They passed by in full number, and not one of them perished: they sought not one another; for the Lord commanded them, and his Spirit gathered them. BSB BSB: Search and read the scroll of the LORD: Not one of these will go missing, not one will lack her mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.
17 Brenton And he shall cast lots for them, and his hand has portioned out their pasture, saying , Ye shall inherit the land for ever: they shall rest on it through all generations. BSB BSB: He has allotted their portion; His hand has distributed it by measure. They will possess it forever; they will dwell in it from generation to generation.
