The Vision of the Four Chariots 1 Brenton And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, four chariots coming out from between two mountains; and the mountains were brazen mountains. BSB BSB: And again I lifted up my eyes and saw four chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
2 Brenton In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; BSB BSB: The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses,
3 Brenton and in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot piebald and ash-coloured horses. BSB BSB: the third white horses, and the fourth dappled horses—all of them strong.
4 Brenton And I answered and said to the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord? BSB BSB: So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5 Brenton And the angel that talked with me answered and said, These are the four winds of heaven, and they are going forth to stand before the Lord of all the earth. BSB BSB: And the angel told me, “These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth from their station before the Lord of all the earth.
6 Brenton As for the chariot in which were the black horses, they went out to the land of the north; and the white went out after them; and the piebald went out to the land of the south.BSB BSB: The one with the black horses is going toward the land of the north, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south.”
7 Brenton And the ash-coloured went out, and looked to go and compass the earth: and he said, Go, and compass the earth. And they compassed the earth. BSB BSB: As the strong horses went out, they were eager to go and patrol the earth; and the LORD said, “Go and patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.
8 Brenton And he cried out and spoke to me, saying, Behold, these go out to the land of the north, and they have quieted mine anger in the land of the north. BSB BSB: Then the LORD summoned me and said, “Behold, those going to the land of the north have given rest to My Spirit in the land of the north.”
The Crown and the Temple 9 Brenton And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, BSB BSB: The word of the LORD also came to me, saying,
10 Brenton Take the things of the captivity from the chief men, and from the useful men of it, and from them that have understood it; and thou shalt enter in that day into the house of Josias the son of Sophonias that came out of Babylon. BSB BSB: “Take an offering from the exiles—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon—and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah.
11 Brenton And thou shalt take silver and gold, and make crowns, and thou shalt put them upon the head of Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest; BSB BSB: Take silver and gold, make an ornate crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.
12 Brenton and thou shalt say to him, Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Behold the man whose name is The Branch; and he shall spring up from his stem, and build the house of the Lord. BSB BSB: And you are to tell him that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Here is a man whose name is the Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
13 Brenton And he shall receive power, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and there shall be a priest on his right hand, and a peaceable counsel shall be between them both. BSB BSB: Yes, He will build the temple of the LORD; He will be clothed in splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. And He will be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’
14 Brenton And the crown shall be to them that wait patiently, and to the useful men of the captivity, and to them that have known it, and for the favour of the son of Sophonias, and for a psalm in the house of the Lord. BSB BSB: The crown will reside in the temple of the LORD as a memorial to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and the gracious son of Zephaniah.
15 Brenton And they that are far from them shall come and build in the house of the Lord, and ye shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you: and this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God. BSB BSB: Even those far away will come and build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.”
