Berean Standard BibleKing James Version

1. A Message to Ahaz

2. 1BSBNow in the days that Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of Aram marched up to wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.KJVKJV: And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
3. 2BSBWhen it was reported to the house of David that Aram was in league with Ephraim, the hearts of Ahaz and his people trembled like trees in the forest shaken by the wind.KJVKJV: And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
4. 3BSBThen the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son Shear-jashub to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct that feeds the upper pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field,KJVKJV: Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field;
5. 4BSBand say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Do not be afraid or disheartened over these two smoldering stubs of firewood—over the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.KJVKJV: And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
6. 5BSBFor Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has plotted your ruin, saying:KJVKJV: Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
7. 6BSB‘Let us invade Judah, terrorize it, and divide it among ourselves. Then we can install the son of Tabeal over it as king.’KJVKJV: Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:
8. 7BSBBut this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘It will not arise; it will not happen.KJVKJV: Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
9. 8BSBFor the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered as a people.KJVKJV: For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
10. 9BSBThe head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not stand firm in your faith, then you will not stand at all.’”KJVKJV: And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

15. 13BSBThen Isaiah said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God as well?KJVKJV: And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
16. 14BSBTherefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.KJVKJV: Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
17. 15BSBBy the time He knows enough to reject evil and choose good, He will be eating curds and honey.KJVKJV: Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
18. 16BSBFor before the boy knows enough to reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.KJVKJV: For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

21. 18BSBOn that day the LORD will whistle to the flies at the farthest streams of the Nile and to the bees in the land of Assyria.KJVKJV: And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
22. 19BSBAnd they will all come and settle in the steep ravines and clefts of the rocks, in all the thornbushes and watering holes.KJVKJV: And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
23. 20BSBOn that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the king of Assyria—to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your beard as well.KJVKJV: In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

26. 23BSBAnd on that day, in every place that had a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver, only briers and thorns will be found.KJVKJV: And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.
