4. 3BSBFor at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, misled, and enslaved to all sorts of desires and pleasures—living in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.KJVKJV: For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
5. 4BSBBut when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,KJVKJV: But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
6. 5BSBHe saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.KJVKJV: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
7. 6BSBThis is the Spirit He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,KJVKJV: Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
8. 7BSBso that, having been justified by His grace, we would become heirs with the hope of eternal life.KJVKJV: That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
9. 8BSBThis saying is trustworthy. And I want you to emphasize these things, so that those who have believed God will take care to devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for the people.KJVKJV: This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
