A Greeting from Peter (1 Peter 1:1–2)
CPDV Simon Peter, servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have been allotted an equal faith with us in the justice of our God and in our Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
CPDV Grace to you. And may peace be fulfilled according to the plan of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord, BSB BSB: Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Partakers of the Divine Nature 3 CPDV in the same manner that all things which are for life and piety have been given to us by his Divine virtue, through the plan of him who has called us to our own glory and virtue. BSB BSB: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
CPDV But as for you, taking up every concern, minister virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge; BSB BSB: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
CPDV and in knowledge, moderation; and in moderation, patience; and in patience, piety; BSB BSB: and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
CPDV and in piety, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity. BSB BSB: and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
CPDV For if these things are with you, and if they abound, they will cause you to be neither empty, nor without fruit, within the plan of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
CPDV For he who does not have these things at hand is blind and groping, being forgetful of his purification from his former offenses. BSB BSB: But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
CPDV Because of this, brothers, be all the more diligent, so that by good works you may make certain your calling and election. For in doing these things, you do not sin at any time. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,
CPDV For in this way, you shall be provided abundantly with an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
CPDV For this reason, I will always begin to admonish you about these things, even though, certainly, you know them and are confirmed in the present truth. BSB BSB: Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
CPDV But I consider it just, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up with admonishments. BSB BSB: I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,
CPDV For it is certain that the laying to rest of this, my tabernacle, is approaching swiftly, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has also indicated to me. BSB BSB: because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
CPDV Therefore, I will present a work for you to have, so that, frequently after my passing, you may call to mind these things. BSB BSB: And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty (Matthew 17:1–13; Mark 9:1–13; Luke 9:28–36)
CPDV For he received honor and glory from God the Father, whose voice descended to him from the magnificent glory: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.” BSB BSB: For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
CPDV We also heard this voice conveyed from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain. BSB BSB: And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
CPDV And so, we have an even firmer prophetic word, to which you would do well to listen, as to a light shining within a dark place, until the day dawns, and the daystar rises, in your hearts. BSB BSB: We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
CPDV Understand this first: that every prophecy of Scripture does not result from one’s own interpretation. BSB BSB: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
CPDV For prophecy was not conveyed by human will at any time. Instead, holy men were speaking about God while inspired by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
