Judgment on Moab, Judah, and Israel 1 CPDV Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Moab, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has burned the bones of the king of Idumea, all the way to ashes. BSB BSB: This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Moab, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because he burned to lime the bones of Edom’s king.
CPDV And I will send a fire onto Moab, and it will devour the buildings of Kerioth. And Moab will die with a noise, with the blare of a trumpet. BSB BSB: So I will send fire against Moab to consume the citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die in tumult, amid war cries and the sound of the ram’s horn.
CPDV And I will destroy the judge in their midst, and I will execute all his leaders with him, says the Lord. BSB BSB: I will cut off the ruler of Moab and kill all the officials with him,” says the LORD.
CPDV Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Judah, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has rejected the law of the Lord and has not kept his commandments. For their idols, which their fathers followed, have deceived them. BSB BSB: This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep His statutes; they are led astray by the lies in which their fathers walked.
CPDV And I will send a fire onto Judah, and it will devour the buildings of Jerusalem. BSB BSB: So I will send fire upon Judah to consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”
CPDV Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Israel, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has sold the just for silver and the poor for shoes. BSB BSB: This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Israel, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals.
CPDV They grind the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth, and they divert the way of the humble. And the son, as well as his father, have gone to the same girl, so that they outrage my holy name. BSB BSB: They trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the earth; they push the needy out of their way. A man and his father have relations with the same girl and so profane My holy name.
CPDV Yet I exterminated the Amorites before their face, whose height was like the height of cedars, and whose strength was like the oak. And I crushed his fruit from above and his roots below. BSB BSB: Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, though his height was like that of the cedars, and he was as strong as the oaks. Yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
CPDV It is I who caused you to ascend from the land of Egypt, and I led you in the wilderness for forty years, so that you might possess the land of the Amorite. BSB BSB: And I brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness, that you might take possession of the land of the Amorite.
CPDV And I stirred up prophets from your sons, and Nazirites from your young men. Is it not so, sons of Israel, says the Lord? BSB BSB: I raised up prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Is this not true, O children of Israel?” declares the LORD.
CPDV Yet you would offer wine to the Nazirites, and you would command the prophets, saying: “Do not prophesy.” BSB BSB: “But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.
CPDV Behold, I will creak under you, just as a wagon creaks that is laden with hay. BSB BSB: Behold, I am about to crush you in your place as with a cart full of grain.
CPDV And flight will perish from the swift, and the strong will not maintain his strength, and the healthy will not save his life. BSB BSB: Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life.
CPDV And one holding the bow will not stand firm, and the swift of foot will not be saved, and the rider on the horse will not save his life. BSB BSB: The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet of foot will not escape, and the horseman will not save his life.
CPDV And the stout of heart among the strong will flee away naked in that day, says the Lord. BSB BSB: Even the bravest of mighty men will flee naked on that day,” declares the LORD.
