CPDV Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy, a brother, BSB BSB: Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
CPDV to the saints and faithful brothers in Christ Jesus who are at Colossae. BSB BSB: To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.
Thanksgiving and Prayer (1 Corinthians 1:4–9; Philippians 1:3–11)
CPDV Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying for you always. BSB BSB: We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
CPDV For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love that you have toward all the saints, BSB BSB: because we have heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all the saints—
CPDV because of the hope that has been stored up for you in heaven, which you have heard through the Word of Truth in the Gospel. BSB BSB: the faith and love proceeding from the hope stored up for you in heaven, of which you have already heard in the word of truth, the gospel
CPDV This has reached you, just as it is present in the whole world, where it grows and bears fruit, as it has also done in you, since the day when you first heard and knew the grace of God in truth, BSB BSB: that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood the grace of God.
CPDV just as you learned it from Epaphras, our most beloved fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: You learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,
CPDV And he has also manifested to us your love in the Spirit. BSB BSB: and who also informed us of your love in the Spirit.
CPDV Then, too, from the day when we first heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and requesting that you be filled with the knowledge of his will, with all wisdom and spiritual understanding, BSB BSB: For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
CPDV so that you may walk in a manner worthy of God, being pleasing in all things, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God, BSB BSB: so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
CPDV being strengthened in every virtue, in accord with the power of his glory, with all patience and longsuffering, with joy, BSB BSB: being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience, and joyfully
CPDV giving thanks to God the Father, who has made us worthy to have a share in the portion of the saints, in the light. BSB BSB: giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.
CPDV For he has rescued us from the power of darkness, and he has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, BSB BSB: He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son,
CPDV in whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins. BSB BSB: in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Supremacy of the Son (Hebrews 1:1–14)
CPDV And he is the head of his body, the Church. He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, so that in all things he may hold primacy. BSB BSB: And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and firstborn from among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence.
CPDV For the Father is well-pleased that all fullness reside in him, BSB BSB: For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,
CPDV And you, though you had been, in times past, understood to be foreigners and enemies, with works of evil, BSB BSB: Once you were alienated from God and were hostile in your minds, engaging in evil deeds.
CPDV So then, continue in the faith: well-founded and steadfast and immovable, by the hope of the Gospel that you have heard, which has been preached throughout all creation under heaven, the Gospel of which I, Paul, have become a minister. BSB BSB: if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Paul’s Suffering for the Church (2 Corinthians 11:16–33)
CPDV For now I rejoice in my passion on your behalf, and I complete in my flesh the things that are lacking in the Passion of Christ, for the sake of his body, which is the Church. BSB BSB: Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions for the sake of His body, which is the church.
CPDV For I have become a minister of the Church, according to the dispensation of God that has been given to me among you, so that I may fulfill the Word of God, BSB BSB: I became its servant by the commission God gave me to fully proclaim to you the word of God,
CPDV the mystery which had remained hidden to past ages and generations, but which now is manifested to his saints. BSB BSB: the mystery that was hidden for ages and generations but is now revealed to His saints.
CPDV To them, God willed to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ and the hope of his glory within you. BSB BSB: To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
CPDV We are announcing him, correcting every man and teaching every man, with all wisdom, so that we may offer every man perfect in Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
CPDV In him, too, I labor, striving according to his action within me, which he works in virtue. BSB BSB: To this end I also labor, striving with all His energy working powerfully within me.
