Abram and Lot Part Ways 1 CPDV Therefore, Abram ascended from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, toward the southern region. BSB BSB: So Abram went up out of Egypt into the Negev—he and his wife and all his possessions—and Lot was with him.
CPDV But he was very wealthy by the possession of gold and silver. BSB BSB: And Abram had become extremely wealthy in livestock and silver and gold.
CPDV And he returned by the way that he came, from the meridian into Bethel, all the way to the place where before he had pitched his tent, between Bethel and Hai. BSB BSB: From the Negev he journeyed from place to place toward Bethel, until he came to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly been pitched,
CPDV There, at the place of the altar he had made before, he again called upon the name of the Lord. BSB BSB: to the site where he had built the altar. And there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
CPDV But Lot also, who was with Abram, had flocks of sheep, and cattle, and tents. BSB BSB: Now Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
CPDV Neither was the land able to contain them, so that they might dwell together. Indeed, their substance was so great that they could not live in common. BSB BSB: But the land was unable to support both of them while they stayed together, for they had so many possessions that they were unable to coexist.
CPDV And then there also arose a conflict between the shepherds of Abram and of Lot. Now at that time the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in that land. BSB BSB: And there was discord between the herdsmen of Abram and the herdsmen of Lot. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were also living in the land.
CPDV Therefore, Abram said to Lot: “I ask you, let there be no quarrel between me and you, and between my shepherds and your shepherds. For we are brothers. BSB BSB: So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no contention between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen. After all, we are kinsmen.
CPDV Behold, the entire land is before your eyes. Withdraw from me, I beg you. If you will go to the left, I will take the right. If you choose the right, I will pass to the left.” BSB BSB: Is not the whole land before you? Now separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”
Lot Proceeds toward Sodom 11 CPDV And Lot chose for himself the region around the Jordan, and he withdrew by way of the east. And they were divided, one brother from the other. BSB BSB: So Lot chose the whole plain of the Jordan for himself and set out toward the east. And Abram and Lot parted company.
CPDV Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan. In truth, Lot stayed in the towns that were around the Jordan, and he lived in Sodom. BSB BSB: Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
CPDV But the men of Sodom were very wicked, and they were sinners before the Lord beyond measure. BSB BSB: But the men of Sodom were wicked, sinning greatly against the LORD.
God Renews the Promise to Abram 14 CPDV And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot was divided from him: “Lift up your eyes, and gaze out from the place where you are now, to the north and to the meridian, to the east and to the west. BSB BSB: After Lot had departed, the LORD said to Abram, “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are, and look to the north and south and east and west,
CPDV All the land that you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring even forever. BSB BSB: for all the land that you see, I will give to you and your offspring forever.
CPDV And I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If any man is able to number the dust of the earth, he will be able to number your offspring as well. BSB BSB: I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.
CPDV Arise and walk through the land in its length, and breadth. For I will give it to you.” BSB BSB: Get up and walk around the land, through its length and breadth, for I will give it to you.”
CPDV Therefore, moving his tent, Abram went and dwelt by the steep valley of Mamre, which is in Hebron. And he built an altar there to the Lord. BSB BSB: So Abram moved his tent and went to live near the Oaks of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.
