The Supremacy of the Son (Colossians 1:15–23)
CPDV And since the Son is the brightness of his glory, and the figure of his substance, and is carrying all things by the Word of his virtue, thereby accomplishing a purging of sins, he sits at the right hand of Majesty on high. BSB BSB: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
CPDV And having been made so much better than the Angels, he has inherited a name so much greater than theirs. BSB BSB: So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
CPDV For to which of the Angels has he ever said: “You are my Son; today have I begotten you?” Or again: “I will be a Father to him, and he shall be a Son to me?” BSB BSB: For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?
CPDV And again, when he brings the only-begotten Son into the world, he says: “And let all the Angels of God adore him.” BSB BSB: And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”
CPDV And about the Angels, certainly, he says: “He makes his Angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.” BSB BSB: Now about the angels He says: “He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire.”
CPDV But about the Son: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of equity. BSB BSB: But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.
CPDV You have loved justice, and you have hated iniquity. Because of this, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of exultation, above your companions.” BSB BSB: You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You above Your companions with the oil of joy.”
CPDV And: “In the beginning, O Lord, you founded the earth. And the heavens are the work of your hands. BSB BSB: And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
CPDV These shall pass away, but you will remain. And all will grow old like a garment. BSB BSB: They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
CPDV And you will change them like a cloak, and they shall be changed. Yet you are ever the same, and your years will not diminish.” BSB BSB: You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”
CPDV But to which of the Angels has he ever said: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?” BSB BSB: Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?
CPDV Are they not all spirits of ministration, sent to minister for the sake of those who shall receive the inheritance of salvation? BSB BSB: Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
