God’s Anger against Israel 1 CPDV While Ephraim was speaking, a horror entered Israel, and he offended by Baal, and he died. BSB BSB: When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal, and he died.
CPDV And now they add that they will be sinning more. And they have made themselves an image cast from their silver, just like the image of idols; but the whole thing has been made by craftsmen. These say to them, “Sacrifice men, you who adore calves.” BSB BSB: Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves!”
CPDV For this reason, they will be like the morning clouds, and like the morning dew that passes away, just like the dust that is driven by a whirlwind away from the threshing floor, and like the smoke from a chimney. BSB BSB: Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, like smoke through an open window.
CPDV But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt, and you will not know God apart from me, and there is no Savior except me. BSB BSB: Yet I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.
CPDV I knew you in the desert, in the land of solitude. BSB BSB: I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought.
CPDV According to their pastures, they have been filled up and have been satisfied. And they have lifted up their heart, and they have forgotten me. BSB BSB: When they had pasture, they became satisfied; when they were satisfied, their hearts became proud, and as a result they forgot Me.
CPDV And I will be to them like a lioness, like a leopard in the way of the Assyrians. BSB BSB: So like a lion I will pounce on them; like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
CPDV I will run to meet them like a bear that has been robbed of her young, and I will split open the middle of their liver. And I will devour them there like a lion; the beast of the field will tear them apart. BSB BSB: Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will tear open their chests. There I will devour them like a lion, like a wild beast tearing them apart.
Death and Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:50–58)
CPDV Perdition is yours, Israel. Your help is only in me. BSB BSB: You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against Me—against your helper.
CPDV Where is your king? Now, especially, let him save you in all your cities, and from your judges, about whom you said, “Give me kings and princes.” BSB BSB: Where is your king now to save you in all your cities, and the rulers to whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?
CPDV I will give you a king in my wrath, and I will take him away in my indignation. BSB BSB: So in My anger I gave you a king, and in My wrath I took him away.
CPDV The iniquity of Ephraim has been bound; his sin has been engulfed. BSB BSB: The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is stored up.
CPDV The pains of giving birth will reach him. He is an unwise son. For now he will not remain firm during the contrition of his sons. BSB BSB: Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the womb.
CPDV I will free them from the hand of death; from death I will redeem them. Death, I will be your death. Hell, I will be your deadly wound. Consolation is hidden from my eyes. BSB BSB: I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from Death. Where, O Death, are your plagues? Where, O Sheol, is your sting? Compassion is hidden from My eyes.
Judgment on Samaria 15 CPDV For he will make a division among brothers. The Lord will bring a burning wind, rising up from the desert, and it will dry up his streams, and it will make his fountain desolate, and he will tear apart every collection of desirable useful things. BSB BSB: Although he flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come—a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will plunder his treasury of every precious article.
CPDV Let Samaria perish, because she has urged her God towards bitterness. Let them perish by the sword, let their little ones be thrown down, and let their pregnant women be cut in two. BSB BSB: Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.
