Jerusalem’s New Settlers 1 CPDV Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem. Yet truly, the remainder of the people cast lots, so that they might choose one part in ten who were to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts for the other cities. BSB BSB: Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in the holy city of Jerusalem, while the remaining nine were to dwell in their own towns.
2 CPDV Then the people blessed all the men who freely offered themselves to live in Jerusalem. BSB BSB: And the people blessed all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
3 CPDV And so these are the leaders of the province, who were living in Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah. Now each one lived in his possession, in their cities: Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the sons of the servants of Solomon. BSB BSB: These are the heads of the provinces who settled in Jerusalem. (In the villages of Judah, however, each lived on his own property in their towns—the Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and descendants of Solomon’s servants—
4 CPDV And in Jerusalem, there lived some of the sons of Judah, and some of the sons of Benjamin: of the sons of Judah, Athaiah, the son of Aziam, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the sons of Perez; BSB BSB: while some of the descendants of Judah and Benjamin settled in Jerusalem.) From the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez;
5 CPDV Maaseiah, the son of Baruch, the son of Colhozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of a Silonite. BSB BSB: and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah.
6 CPDV All these sons of Perez lived in Jerusalem, four hundred sixty-eight strong men. BSB BSB: The descendants of Perez who settled in Jerusalem totaled 468 men of valor.
7 CPDV Now these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu, the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah; BSB BSB: From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah;

9 CPDV And Joel, the son of Zichri, was their foremost leader. And Judah, the son of Hassenuah, was second over the city. BSB BSB: Joel son of Zichri was the officer over them, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the Second District of the city.
10 CPDV And from the priests, there were Jedaiah, the son of Joiarib, Jachin, BSB BSB: From the priests: Jedaiah son of Joiarib; Jachin;
11 CPDV Seraiah, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God, BSB BSB: Seraiah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief official of the house of God;
12 CPDV and their brothers, who were doing the works of the temple: eight hundred twenty-two. And Adaiah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zachariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, BSB BSB: and their associates who did the work at the temple—822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah;
13 CPDV and his brothers, the leaders among the fathers: two hundred forty-two. And Amassai, the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, BSB BSB: and his associates, the leaders of families—242 men; Amashai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer;
14 CPDV and their brothers, who were very powerful: one hundred twenty-eight. And their foremost leader was Zabdiel, the son of the powerful. BSB BSB: and his associates—128 mighty men of valor. Zabdiel son of Haggedolim was their overseer.
15 CPDV And from the Levites, there were Shemaiah, the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni, BSB BSB: From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;
16 CPDV and Shabbethai and Jozabad, who were over all the works which were exterior to the house of God, from among the leaders of the Levites. BSB BSB: Shabbethai and Jozabad, two leaders of the Levites, who supervised the work outside the house of God;
17 CPDV And Mattaniah, the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the leader of praise and confession in prayer, with Bakbukiah, second among his brothers, and Abda, the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. BSB BSB: Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.
18 CPDV All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty-four. BSB BSB: The Levites in the holy city totaled 284.
19 CPDV And the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers, who guarded the doorways, were one hundred seventy-two. BSB BSB: And the gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their associates, who kept watch at the gates—172 men.
Residents Outside Jerusalem 20 CPDV And the remainder of Israel, the priests and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, each one in his own possession. BSB BSB: The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the villages of Judah, each on his own inheritance.
21 CPDV And the temple servants were living at Ophel, with Ziha and Gishpa, of the temple servants. BSB BSB: The temple servants lived on the hill of Ophel, with Ziha and Gishpa over them.
22 CPDV And the director of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi, the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica. The singing men in the ministry of the house of God were from the sons of Asaph. BSB BSB: Now the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica. He was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the singers in charge of the service of the house of God.
23 CPDV In fact, there was a precept of the king about them, and an order among the singing men, throughout each day. BSB BSB: For there was a command from the king concerning the singers, an ordinance regulating their daily activities.
24 CPDV And Pethahiah, the son of Meshezabel, from the sons of Zerah, the son of Judah, was at the hand of the king concerning every word of the people, BSB BSB: Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, a descendant of Zerah son of Judah, was the king’s agent in every matter concerning the people.
25 CPDV and in the houses throughout all their regions. Some of the sons of Judah lived at Kiriatharba and in its daughter villages, and at Dibon and in its daughter villages, and at Jekabzeel and in its vicinity, BSB BSB: As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath-arba, Dibon, Jekabzeel, and their villages;
26 CPDV and at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Bethpelet, BSB BSB: in Jeshua, Moladah, and Beth-pelet;
27 CPDV and at Hazarshual, and at Beersheba and in its daughter villages, BSB BSB: in Hazar-shual; in Beersheba and its villages;
28 CPDV and at Ziklag, and at Meconah and in its daughter villages, BSB BSB: in Ziklag; in Meconah and its villages;
29 CPDV and at Enrimmon, and at Zorah, and at Jarmuth, BSB BSB: in En-rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,
30 CPDV Zanoah, Adullam, and in their villages, at Lachish and its regions, and at Azekah and in its daughter villages. And they dwelt from Beersheba as far as the valley of Hinnom. BSB BSB: Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages; in Lachish and its fields; and in Azekah and its villages. So they settled from Beersheba all the way to the Valley of Hinnom.
31 CPDV But the sons of Benjamin lived from Geba, at Michmash, and Aija, and Bethel and in its daughter villages, BSB BSB: The descendants of Benjamin from Geba lived in Michmash, Aija, and Bethel with its villages;
32 CPDV to Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, BSB BSB: in Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
33 CPDV Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, BSB BSB: Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
34 CPDV Hadid, Zeboim, and Neballat, Lod, BSB BSB: Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,
35 CPDV and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. BSB BSB: Lod, and Ono; and in the Valley of the Craftsmen.
36 CPDV And some of the Levites were apportioned with Judah and Benjamin. BSB BSB: And some divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.
