One in Christ (Ephesians 2:11–18)
CPDV Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ, any solace of charity, any fellowship of the Spirit, any feelings of commiseration: BSB BSB: Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
CPDV complete my joy by having the same understanding, holding to the same charity, being of one mind, with the same sentiment. BSB BSB: then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose.
CPDV Let nothing be done by contention, nor in vain glory. Instead, in humility, let each of you esteem others to be better than himself. BSB BSB: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.
CPDV Let each of you not consider anything to be your own, but rather to belong to others. BSB BSB: Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
The Mind of Christ (Isaiah 52:13–15)
CPDV who, though he was in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be seized. BSB BSB: Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
CPDV Instead, he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and accepting the state of a man. BSB BSB: but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness.
CPDV He humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, even the death of the Cross. BSB BSB: And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross.
CPDV and so that every tongue would confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father. BSB BSB: and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Lights in the World (Matthew 5:13–16)
CPDV And so, my most beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but even more so now in my absence: work toward your salvation with fear and trembling. BSB BSB: Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
CPDV For it is God who works in you, both so as to choose, and so as to act, in accord with his good will. BSB BSB: For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose.
CPDV And do everything without murmuring or hesitation. BSB BSB: Do everything without complaining or arguing,
CPDV So may you be without blame, simple sons of God, without reproof, in the midst of a depraved and perverse nation, among whom you shine like lights in the world, BSB BSB: so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world
CPDV holding to the Word of Life, until my glory in the day of Christ. For I have not run in vain, nor have I labored in vain. BSB BSB: as you hold forth the word of life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
CPDV Moreover, if I am to be immolated because of the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and give thanks with all of you. BSB BSB: But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
CPDV And over this same thing, you also should rejoice and give thanks, together with me. BSB BSB: So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
Timothy and Epaphroditus (1 Corinthians 16:10–12)
CPDV Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, in order that I may be encouraged, when I know the things concerning you. BSB BSB: Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I learn how you are doing.
CPDV For I have no one else with such an agreeable mind, who, with sincere affection, is solicitous for you. BSB BSB: I have nobody else like him who will genuinely care for your needs.
CPDV For they all seek the things that are of themselves, not the things that are of Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For all the others look after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
CPDV So know this evidence of him: that like a son with a father, so has he served with me in the Gospel. BSB BSB: But you know Timothy’s proven worth, that as a child with his father he has served with me to advance the gospel.
CPDV Therefore, I hope to send him to you immediately, as soon as I see what will happen concerning me. BSB BSB: So I hope to send him as soon as I see what happens with me.
CPDV But I trust in the Lord that I myself will also return to you soon. BSB BSB: And I trust in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
CPDV Now I have considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and co-worker, and fellow soldier, and an attendant to my needs, but your Apostle. BSB BSB: But I thought it necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my needs.
CPDV For certainly, he has desired all of you, and he was saddened because you had heard that he was sick. BSB BSB: For he has been longing for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.
CPDV For he was sick, even unto death, but God took pity on him, and not only on him, but truly on myself also, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. BSB BSB: He was sick indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
CPDV Therefore, I sent him more readily, in order that, by seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow. BSB BSB: Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less anxious.
CPDV And so, receive him with every joy in the Lord, and treat all those like him with honor. BSB BSB: Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him,
CPDV For he was brought close even to death, for the sake of the work of Christ, handing over his own life, so that he might fulfill what was lacking from you concerning my service. BSB BSB: because he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for your deficit of service to me.
