Taste and See That the LORD Is Good (1 Samuel 21:8–15)
1 CPDV To David, when he changed his appearance in the sight of Abimelech, and so he dismissed him, and he went away. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will be ever in my mouth. BSB BSB: Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, so that the king drove him away. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
2 CPDV In the Lord, my soul will be praised. May the meek listen and rejoice. BSB BSB: My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice.
3 CPDV Magnify the Lord with me, and let us extol his name in itself. BSB BSB: Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.
4 CPDV I sought the Lord, and he heeded me, and he carried me away from all my tribulations. BSB BSB: I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
5 CPDV Approach him and be enlightened, and your faces will not be confounded. BSB BSB: Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed.
6 CPDV This poor one cried out, and the Lord heeded him, and he saved him from all his tribulations. BSB BSB: This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
7 CPDV The Angel of the Lord will encamp around those who fear him, and he will rescue them. BSB BSB: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
8 CPDV Taste and see that the Lord is sweet. Blessed is the man who hopes in him. BSB BSB: Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 CPDV Fear the Lord, all you his saints. For there is no destitution for those who fear him. BSB BSB: Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
10 CPDV The rich have been needy and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not be deprived of any good thing. BSB BSB: Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11 CPDV Come forward, sons. Listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord. BSB BSB: Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 CPDV Which is the man who wills life, who chooses to see good days? BSB BSB: Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
13 CPDV Prohibit your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. BSB BSB: Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
14 CPDV Turn away from evil, and do good. Inquire about peace, and pursue it. BSB BSB: Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 CPDV The eyes of the Lord are on the just, and his ears are with their prayers. BSB BSB: The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry.
16 CPDV But the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil, to perish the remembrance of them from the earth. BSB BSB: But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
17 CPDV The just cried out, and the Lord heard them, and he freed them from all their tribulations. BSB BSB: The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears; He delivers them from all their troubles.
18 CPDV The Lord is near to those who are troubled in heart, and he will save the humble in spirit. BSB BSB: The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
19 CPDV Many are the afflictions of the just, but from them all the Lord will free them. BSB BSB: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
20 CPDV The Lord preserves all of their bones, not one of them shall be broken. BSB BSB: He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.
21 CPDV The death of a sinner is very harmful, and those who hate the just will fare badly. BSB BSB: Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.
22 CPDV The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants, and none of those who hope in him will fare badly. BSB BSB: The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
