Victory with God (2 Samuel 8:1–14; 1 Chronicles 18:1–13; Psalm 108:1–13)
CPDV Unto the end. For those who will be changed, with the inscription of a title, of David himself, for instruction: when he set fire to Mesopotamia of Syria and Sobal, and Joab turned back and struck Idumea, in the valley of the salt pits, twelve thousand men. O God, you have rejected us, and you have ruined us. You became angry, and yet you have been merciful to us. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A Miktam of David for instruction. When he fought Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab returned and struck down 12,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. You have rejected us, O God; You have broken us; You have been angry; restore us!
CPDV You have moved the earth, and you have disturbed it. Heal its breaches, for it has been moved. BSB BSB: You have shaken the land and torn it open. Heal its fractures, for it is quaking.
CPDV You have revealed to your people difficulties. You have made us drink the wine of remorse. BSB BSB: You have shown Your people hardship; we are staggered from the wine You made us drink.
CPDV You have given a warning sign to those who fear you, so that they may flee from before the face of the bow, so that your beloved may be delivered. BSB BSB: You have raised a banner for those who fear You, that they may flee the bow. Selah
CPDV Save me with your right hand, and hear me. BSB BSB: Respond and save us with Your right hand, that Your beloved may be delivered.
CPDV God has spoken in his holy place: I will rejoice, and I will divide Shechem, and I will measure the steep valley of the tabernacles. BSB BSB: God has spoken from His sanctuary: “I will triumph! I will parcel out Shechem and apportion the Valley of Succoth.
CPDV Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. And Ephraim is the strength of my head. Judah is my king. BSB BSB: Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim is My helmet, Judah is My scepter.
CPDV Moab is the cooking pot of my hope. Into Idumea, I will extend my shoe. To me, the foreigners have been made subject. BSB BSB: Moab is My washbasin; upon Edom I toss My sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
CPDV Who will lead me into the fortified city? Who will lead me all the way to Idumea? BSB BSB: Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
CPDV Will not you, O God, who has rejected us? And will not you, O God, go out with our armies? BSB BSB: Have You not rejected us, O God? Will You no longer march out, O God, with our armies?
CPDV Grant us help from tribulation. For salvation from man is empty. BSB BSB: Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.
CPDV In God, we will act virtuously. And those who trouble us, he will lead to nothing. BSB BSB: With God we will perform with valor, and He will trample our enemies.
