Living Sacrifices (1 Corinthians 3:16–23; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20)
CPDV And so, I beg you, brothers, by the mercy of God, that you offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, with the subservience of your mind. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
CPDV And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect. BSB BSB: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
CPDV For I say, through the grace that has been given to me, to all who are among you: Taste no more than it is necessary to taste, but taste unto sobriety and just as God has distributed a share of the faith to each one. BSB BSB: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.
CPDV For just as, within one body, we have many parts, though all the parts do not have the same role, BSB BSB: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function,
CPDV so also we, being many, are one body in Christ, and each one is a part, the one of the other. BSB BSB: so in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.
CPDV And we each have different gifts, according to the grace that has been given to us: whether prophecy, in agreement with the reasonableness of faith; BSB BSB: We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;
CPDV or ministry, in ministering; or he who teaches, in doctrine; BSB BSB: if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
CPDV he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, in simplicity; he who governs, in solicitude; he who shows mercy, in cheerfulness. BSB BSB: if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Love, Zeal, Hope, Hospitality (John 13:31–35; 1 John 3:11–24)
CPDV Let love be without falseness: hating evil, clinging to what is good, BSB BSB: Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.
CPDV loving one another with fraternal charity, surpassing one another in honor: BSB BSB: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.
CPDV in solicitude, not lazy; in spirit, fervent; serving the Lord; BSB BSB: Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
CPDV in hope, rejoicing; in tribulation, enduring; in prayer, ever-willing; BSB BSB: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer.
CPDV in the difficulties of the saints, sharing; in hospitality, attentive. BSB BSB: Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21–35)
CPDV Rejoice with those who are rejoicing. Weep with those who are weeping. BSB BSB: Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
CPDV Be of the same mind toward one another: not savoring what is exalted, but consenting in humility. Do not choose to seem wise to yourself. BSB BSB: Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.
CPDV If it is possible, in so far as you are able, be at peace with all men. BSB BSB: If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.
CPDV So if an enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in doing so, you will heap burning coals upon his head. BSB BSB: On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
CPDV Do not allow evil to prevail, instead prevail over evil by means of goodness. BSB BSB: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
