Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Galatians 5:16–26)
CPDV Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who are not walking according to the flesh. BSB BSB: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
CPDV For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed me from the law of sin and death. BSB BSB: For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
CPDV For though this was impossible under the law, because it was weakened by the flesh, God sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and because of sin, in order to condemn sin in the flesh, BSB BSB: For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh,
CPDV so that the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us. For we are not walking according to the flesh, but according to the spirit. BSB BSB: so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
CPDV For those who are in agreement with the flesh are mindful of the things of the flesh. But those who are in agreement with the spirit are mindful of the things of the spirit. BSB BSB: Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
CPDV For the prudence of the flesh is death. But the prudence of the spirit is life and peace. BSB BSB: The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace,
CPDV And the wisdom of the flesh is inimical to God. For it is not subject to the law of God, nor can it be. BSB BSB: because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
CPDV So those who are in the flesh are not able to please God. BSB BSB: Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.
CPDV But if Christ is within you, then the body is indeed dead, concerning sin, but the spirit truly lives, because of justification. BSB BSB: But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
CPDV But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead lives within you, then he who raised up Jesus Christ from the dead shall also enliven your mortal bodies, by means of his Spirit living within you. BSB BSB: And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
Heirs with Christ 12 CPDV Therefore, brothers, we are not debtors to the flesh, so as to live according to the flesh. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.
CPDV For if you live according to the flesh, you will die. But if, by the Spirit, you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. BSB BSB: For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
CPDV For all those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. BSB BSB: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
CPDV But if we are sons, then we are also heirs: certainly heirs of God, but also co-heirs with Christ, yet in such a way that, if we suffer with him, we shall also be glorified with him. BSB BSB: And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Future Glory (2 Corinthians 5:1–10)
CPDV For the creature itself shall also be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God. BSB BSB: that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
CPDV For we know that every creature groans inwardly, as if giving birth, even until now; BSB BSB: We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.
CPDV and not only these, but also ourselves, since we hold the first-fruits of the Spirit. For we also groan within ourselves, anticipating our adoption as the sons of God, and the redemption of our body. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
CPDV For we have been saved by hope. But a hope which is seen is not hope. For when a man sees something, why would he hope? BSB BSB: For in this hope we were saved; but hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he can already see?
CPDV But since we hope for what we do not see, we wait with patience. BSB BSB: But if we hope for what we do not yet see, we wait for it patiently.
CPDV And similarly, the Spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself asks on our behalf with ineffable sighing. BSB BSB: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
CPDV And he who examines hearts knows what the Spirit seeks, because he asks on behalf of the saints in accordance with God. BSB BSB: And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
God Works in All Things (Ephesians 1:3–14)
CPDV And we know that, for those who love God, all things work together unto good, for those who, in accordance with his purpose, are called to be saints. BSB BSB: And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
CPDV For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined, in conformity with the image of his Son, so that he might be the Firstborn among many brothers. BSB BSB: For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.
CPDV And those whom he predestined, he also called. And those whom he called, he also justified. And those whom he justified, he also glorified. BSB BSB: And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
CPDV Who will make an accusation against the elect of God? God is the One who justifies; BSB BSB: Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
CPDV who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus who has died, and who has indeed also risen again, is at the right hand of God, and even now he intercedes for us. BSB BSB: Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.
More than Conquerors (Psalm 44:1–26)
CPDV Then who will separate us from the love of Christ? Tribulation? Or anguish? Or famine? Or nakedness? Or peril? Or persecution? Or the sword? BSB BSB: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
CPDV For it is as it has been written: “For your sake, we are being put to death all day long. We are being treated like sheep for the slaughter.” BSB BSB: As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
CPDV But in all these things we overcome, because of him who has loved us. BSB BSB: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
CPDV For I am certain that neither death, nor life, nor Angels, nor Principalities, nor Powers, nor the present things, nor the future things, nor strength, BSB BSB: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 CPDV nor the heights, nor the depths, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
