1. 1DA31Det, som var fra Begyndelsen, det, vi have hørt, det, vi have set med vore Øjne, det, vi skuede og vore Hænder følte på, nemlig om Livets Ord; -BSBBSB: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.
2. 2DA31og Livet blev åbenbaret, og vi have set og vidne og forkynde eder det evige Liv, som jo var hos Faderen og blev åbenbaret for os; -BSBBSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3. 3DA31hvad vi have set og hørt, forkynde vi også eder, for at også I må have Samfund med os; men vort Samfund er med Faderen og med hans Søn Jesus Kristus.BSBBSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4. 4DA31Og dette skrive vi til eder, for at eders Glæde må være fuldkommen.BSBBSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
5. 5DA31Og dette er det Budskab, som vi have hørt af ham og forkynde eder, at Gud er Lys, og der er slet intet Mørke i ham.BSBBSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6. 6DA31Dersom vi sige, at vi have Samfund med ham, og vandre i Mørket, da lyve vi og gøre ikke Sandheden.BSBBSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

8. 8DA31Dersom vi sige, at vi ikke have Synd, bedrage vi os selv, og Sandheden er ikke i os.BSBBSB: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
