Hannah’s Prayer of Thanksgiving (Luke 1:46–56)

DBY There is none holy as Jehovah, for there is none beside thee, neither is there any rock like our God. BSB BSB: There is no one holy like the LORD. Indeed, there is no one besides You! And there is no Rock like our God.
DBY Do not multiply your words of pride, let not vain-glory come out of your mouth; For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. BSB BSB: Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogance come from your mouth, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by Him actions are weighed.
DBY The bow of the mighty is broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. BSB BSB: The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble are equipped with strength.
DBY They that were full have hired themselves out for bread; and the hungry are so no more: Even the barren beareth seven, and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. BSB BSB: The well-fed hire themselves out for food, but the starving hunger no more. The barren woman gives birth to seven, but she who has many sons pines away.
DBY Jehovah killeth, and maketh alive; he bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up. BSB BSB: The LORD brings death and gives life; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
DBY Jehovah maketh poor, and maketh rich, he bringeth low, also he lifteth up: BSB BSB: The LORD sends poverty and wealth; He humbles and He exalts.
DBY He raiseth up the poor out of the dust; from the dung-hill he lifteth up the needy, To set him among nobles; and he maketh them inherit a throne of glory; For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's, and he hath set the world upon them. BSB BSB: He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap. He seats them among princes and bestows on them a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s, and upon them He has set the world.
DBY He keepeth the feet of his saints, but the wicked are silenced in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. BSB BSB: He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.
DBY They that strive with Jehovah shall be broken to pieces; in the heavens will he thunder upon them. Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth; and he will give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed. BSB BSB: Those who oppose the LORD will be shattered. He will thunder from heaven against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth and will give power to His king. He will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

When any man offered a sacrifice, the servant of the priest would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling
DBY and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot; the priest took of it all that the flesh-hook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites that came there. BSB BSB: and plunge it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.
DBY Even before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he will not accept sodden flesh of thee, but raw. BSB BSB: Even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”
DBY If the man said to him, They will immediately burn the fat entire, then take as thy soul desires; he would say to him , No, but thou shalt give it now; and if not, I will take it by force. BSB BSB: And if any man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you may take whatever you want,” the servant would reply, “No, you must give it to me right now. If you refuse, I will take it by force!”

BSB BSB: And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the LORD give you children by this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD.” Then they would go home.
DBY So Jehovah visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before Jehovah. BSB BSB: So the LORD attended to Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.
DBY And Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and that they lay with the women that served at the entrance of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: Now Eli was very old, and he heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
DBY And he said to them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil deeds from all this people. BSB BSB: “Why are you doing these things?” Eli said to his sons. “I hear about your wicked deeds from all these people.
DBY No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear: ye make Jehovah's people transgress. BSB BSB: No, my sons; it is not a good report I hear circulating among the LORD’s people.
DBY If one man sin against another, God will judge him; but if a man sin against Jehovah, who shall intreat for him? But they hearkened not to the voice of their father, for Jehovah was minded to slay them. BSB BSB: If a man sins against another man, God can intercede for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to their father, since the LORD intended to put them to death.

DBY and choose him out of all the tribes of Israel, to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear the ephod before me? and I gave unto the house of thy father all the offerings by fire of the children of Israel. BSB BSB: And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the food offerings of the Israelites.
DBY Wherefore do ye trample upon my sacrifice and upon mine oblation which I have commanded in my habitation? And thou honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the primest of all the oblations of Israel my people. BSB BSB: Why then do you kick at My sacrifice and offering that I have prescribed for My dwelling place? You have honored your sons more than Me by fattening yourselves with the best of all the offerings of My people Israel.’
DBY Wherefore Jehovah the God of Israel saith, I said indeed, Thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever. But now Jehovah saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. BSB BSB: Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever. But now the LORD declares: Far be it from Me! For I will honor those who honor Me, but those who despise Me will be disdained.
