Consecration of the Priests (Leviticus 8:1–13)
DBY And this is the thing which thou shalt do to them to hallow them, that they may serve me as priests: take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish, BSB BSB: “Now this is what you are to do to consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without blemish,
DBY and unleavened bread, and unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil — of wheaten flour shalt thou make them. BSB BSB: along with unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil. Make them out of fine wheat flour,
DBY And thou shalt put them into one basket, and present them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams. BSB BSB: put them in a basket, and present them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.
DBY And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring near the entrance of the tent of meeting, and shalt bathe them with water. BSB BSB: Then present Aaron and his sons at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
DBY And thou shalt take the garments, and clothe Aaron with the vest, and the cloak of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and shalt gird him with the girdle of the ephod. BSB BSB: Take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself, and the breastplate. Fasten the ephod on him with its woven waistband.
DBY And thou shalt put the turban upon his head, and fasten the holy diadem to the turban, BSB BSB: Put the turban on his head and attach the holy diadem to the turban.
DBY and shalt take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head, and anoint him. BSB BSB: Then take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head.
DBY And thou shalt bring his sons near, and clothe them with the vests. BSB BSB: Present his sons as well and clothe them with tunics.
DBY And thou shalt gird them with the girdle — Aaron and his sons, and bind the high caps on them; and the priesthood shall be theirs for an everlasting statute; and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons. BSB BSB: Wrap the sashes around Aaron and his sons and tie headbands on them. The priesthood shall be theirs by a permanent statute. In this way you are to ordain Aaron and his sons.
The Order of the Sacrifices (Leviticus 8:22–36)
DBY And thou shalt present the bullock before the tent of meeting; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock; BSB BSB: You are to present the bull at the front of the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on its head.
DBY and thou shalt slaughter the bullock before Jehovah, at the entrance of the tent of meeting; BSB BSB: And you shall slaughter the bull before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
DBY and thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it on the horns of the altar with thy finger, and shalt pour all the blood at the bottom of the altar. BSB BSB: Take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; then pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
DBY And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the net of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar. BSB BSB: Take all the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar.
DBY And the flesh of the bullock, and its skin, and its dung, shalt thou burn with fire outside the camp: it is a sin-offering. BSB BSB: But burn the flesh of the bull and its hide and dung outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
DBY And thou shalt take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram; BSB BSB: Take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.
DBY and thou shalt slaughter the ram, and shalt take its blood, and sprinkle it on the altar round about. BSB BSB: You are to slaughter the ram, take its blood, and splatter it on all sides of the altar.
DBY And thou shalt cut up the ram into its pieces, and wash its inwards, and its legs, and put them upon its pieces, and upon its head; BSB BSB: Cut the ram into pieces, wash the entrails and legs, and place them with its head and other pieces.
DBY and thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt-offering to Jehovah — a sweet odour; it is an offering by fire to Jehovah. BSB BSB: Then burn the entire ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.
DBY And thou shalt take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram; BSB BSB: Take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on its head.
DBY and thou shalt slaughter the ram, and take of its blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the great toe of their right foot; and thou shalt sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. BSB BSB: Slaughter the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the right earlobes of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Splatter the remaining blood on all sides of the altar.
DBY And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron, and on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him; and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him. BSB BSB: And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, as well as on his sons and their garments. Then he and his garments will be consecrated, as well as his sons and their garments.
DBY Also of the ram shalt thou take the fat, and the fat-tail, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the net of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder — for it is a ram of consecration — BSB BSB: Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the entrails, the lobe of the liver, both kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh (since this is a ram for ordination),
DBY and one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before Jehovah; BSB BSB: along with one loaf of bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread that is before the LORD.
DBY and thou shalt put all this in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons, and shalt wave them as a wave-offering before Jehovah. BSB BSB: Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and wave them before the LORD as a wave offering.
DBY And thou shalt receive them of their hand and burn them upon the altar over the burnt-offering, for a sweet odour before Jehovah: it is an offering by fire to Jehovah. BSB BSB: Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar atop the burnt offering as a pleasing aroma before the LORD; it is a food offering to the LORD.
DBY And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of consecration which is for Aaron, and wave it as a wave-offering before Jehovah; and it shall be thy part. BSB BSB: Take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s ordination and wave it before the LORD as a wave offering, and it will be your portion.
DBY And thou shalt hallow the breast of the wave-offering, and the shoulder of the heave-offering, that hath been waved and heaved up, of the ram of the consecration, of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons. BSB BSB: Consecrate for Aaron and his sons the breast of the wave offering that is waved and the thigh of the heave offering that is lifted up from the ram of ordination.
DBY And they shall be for Aaron and his sons, as an everlasting statute, on the part of the children of Israel; for it is a heave-offering; and it shall be a heave-offering on the part of the children of Israel of the sacrifices of their peace-offerings, as their heave-offering to Jehovah. BSB BSB: This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion from the Israelites, for it is the heave offering the Israelites will make to the LORD from their peace offerings.
DBY And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons' after him, to be anointed therein, and to be consecrated in them. BSB BSB: The holy garments that belong to Aaron will belong to his sons after him, so they can be anointed and ordained in them.
DBY The son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days, when he cometh into the tent of meeting to serve in the sanctuary. BSB BSB: The son who succeeds him as priest and enters the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place must wear them for seven days.
Food for the Priests 31 DBY And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration, and boil its flesh in a holy place. BSB BSB: You are to take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.
DBY And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the entrance of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket.
DBY They shall eat the things with which the atonement was made, to consecrate and to hallow them; but a stranger shall not eat of them , for they are holy. BSB BSB: They must eat those things by which atonement was made for their ordination and consecration. But no outsider may eat them, because these things are sacred.
DBY And if any of the flesh of the consecration, and of the bread, remain until the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, for it is holy. BSB BSB: And if any of the meat of ordination or any bread is left until the morning, you are to burn up the remainder. It must not be eaten, because it is sacred.
DBY And thus shalt thou do to Aaron, and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them. BSB BSB: This is what you are to do for Aaron and his sons based on all that I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them.
DBY And thou shalt offer every day a bullock as a sin-offering for atonement; and the altar shalt thou cleanse from sin, by making atonement for it, and shalt anoint it, to hallow it. BSB BSB: Sacrifice a bull as a sin offering each day for atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it.
DBY Seven days shalt thou make atonement for the altar and hallow it; and the altar shall be most holy: whatever toucheth the altar shall be holy. BSB BSB: For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will become most holy; whatever touches the altar will be holy.
The Daily Offerings (Numbers 28:1–8)
DBY And this is what thou shalt offer upon the altar — two lambs of the first year, day by day continually. BSB BSB: This is what you are to offer regularly on the altar, each day: two lambs that are a year old.
DBY The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer between the two evenings. BSB BSB: Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight.
DBY And with the one lamb a tenth part of wheaten flour mingled with beaten oil, a fourth part of a hin; and a drink-offering, a fourth part of a hin of wine. BSB BSB: With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah of fine flour, mixed with a quarter hin of oil from pressed olives, and a drink offering of a quarter hin of wine.
DBY And the second lamb shalt thou offer between the two evenings; as the oblation in the morning, and as its drink-offering shalt thou offer with this, for a sweet odour, an offering by fire to Jehovah. BSB BSB: And offer the second lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and drink offering as in the morning, as a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.
DBY It shall be a continual burnt-offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before Jehovah, where I will meet with you, to speak there with thee. BSB BSB: For the generations to come, this burnt offering shall be made regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, where I will meet you to speak with you.
DBY And there will I meet with the children of Israel; and it shall be hallowed by my glory. BSB BSB: I will also meet with the Israelites there, and that place will be consecrated by My glory.
DBY And I will hallow the tent of meeting, and the altar; and I will hallow Aaron and his sons, that they may serve me as priests. BSB BSB: So I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests.
God Will Dwell among the People 45 DBY And I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel, and will be their God. BSB BSB: Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.
DBY And they shall know that I am Jehovah their God, who have brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, to dwell in their midst: I am Jehovah their God. BSB BSB: And they will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.
