Inside the Temple 1 DBY And he brought me to the temple; and he measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, the breadth of the tent. BSB BSB: Then the man brought me into the outer sanctuary and measured the side pillars to be six cubits wide on each side.
DBY And the breadth of the entry was ten cubits, and the sides of the entry were five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side; and he measured its length, forty cubits, and the breadth, twenty cubits. BSB BSB: The width of the entrance was ten cubits, and the sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. He also measured the length of the outer sanctuary to be forty cubits, and the width to be twenty cubits.
DBY And he went inwards, and measured the post of the entry, two cubits; and the entry, six cubits; and the breadth of the entry, seven cubits. BSB BSB: And he went into the inner sanctuary and measured the side pillars at the entrance to be two cubits wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the walls on each side were seven cubits wide.
DBY And he measured its length, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place . BSB BSB: Then he measured the room adjacent to the inner sanctuary to be twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”
Outside the Temple 5 DBY And he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of the side-chambers, four cubits, round about the house on every side. BSB BSB: Next he measured the wall of the temple to be six cubits thick, and the width of each side room around the temple was four cubits.
DBY And the side-chambers were three, chamber over chamber, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which the house had for the side-chambers round about, that they might have hold; but they had not hold in the wall of the house. BSB BSB: The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
DBY And for the side-chambers there was an enlarging, and it went round about the house increasing upward; for the surrounding of the house increased upward round about the house; therefore the house had width upward, and so ascended from the lower story to the upper, by the middle one. BSB BSB: The side rooms surrounding the temple widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward. And so a stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one.
DBY And I saw that the house had an elevation round about: the foundations of the side-chambers, a full reed, six cubits to the joint. BSB BSB: I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the full length of a rod, six long cubits.
DBY The thickness of the wall, which was for the side-chambers without, was five cubits, as also what was left free along the building of the side-chambers that pertained to the house. BSB BSB: The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick, and the open area between the side rooms of the temple
DBY And between the cells and the house was a width of twenty cubits round about the house on every side. BSB BSB: and the outer chambers was twenty cubits wide all around the temple.
DBY And the entry of the side-chambers was toward what was left free, one entry toward the north, and one entry toward the south; and the width of the space left free was five cubits round about. BSB BSB: The side rooms opened into this area, with one entrance on the north and another on the south. The open area was five cubits wide all around.
DBY And the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about; and its length ninety cubits. BSB BSB: Now the building that faced the temple courtyard on the west was seventy cubits wide, and the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, with a length of ninety cubits.
DBY And he measured the house: the length a hundred cubits; and the separate place, and the building, and its walls, the length a hundred cubits; BSB BSB: Then he measured the temple to be a hundred cubits long, and the temple courtyard and the building with its walls were also a hundred cubits long.
DBY and the breadth of the front of the house, and of the separate places toward the east, a hundred cubits. BSB BSB: The width of the temple courtyard on the east, including the front of the temple, was a hundred cubits.
The Interior Structures 15 DBY And he measured the length of the building before the separate place, which was at the back of it, with its galleries on the one side and on the other side, a hundred cubits; and the inner temple, and the porches of the court. BSB BSB: Next he measured the length of the building facing the temple courtyard at the rear of the temple, including its galleries on each side; it was a hundred cubits. The outer sanctuary, the inner sanctuary, and the porticoes facing the court,
DBY The thresholds, and the closed windows, and the galleries round about the three of them (opposite the thresholds it was wainscoted with wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered), BSB BSB: as well as the thresholds and the beveled windows and the galleries all around with their three levels opposite the threshold, were overlaid with wood on all sides. They were paneled from the ground to the windows, and the windows were covered.
DBY and above, over the entry, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about, within and without, all was by measure.BSB BSB: In the space above the outside of the entrance to the inner sanctuary on all the walls, spaced evenly around the inner and outer sanctuary,
DBY And it was made with cherubim and palm-trees, and a palm-tree was between cherub and cherub; and the cherub had two faces: BSB BSB: were alternating carved cherubim and palm trees. Each cherub had two faces:
DBY the face of a man was toward the palm-tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm-tree on the other side: so was it made upon all the house round about. BSB BSB: the face of a man was toward the palm tree on one side, and the face of a young lion was toward the palm tree on the other side. They were carved all the way around the temple.
DBY From the ground unto above the entry were the cherubim and the palm-trees made, and on the wall of the temple. BSB BSB: Cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall of the outer sanctuary from the floor to the space above the entrance.
DBY As for the temple, the door-posts were squared; and the front of the sanctuary had the same appearance. BSB BSB: The outer sanctuary had a rectangular doorframe, and the doorframe of the sanctuary was similar.
DBY The altar was of wood, three cubits high, and its length two cubits; and its corners, and its length, and its walls were of wood. And he said unto me, This is the table which is before Jehovah. BSB BSB: There was an altar of wood three cubits high and two cubits square. Its corners, base, and sides were of wood. And the man told me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”
DBY And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors. BSB BSB: Both the outer sanctuary and the inner sanctuary had double doors,
DBY And the doors had two leaves, two turning-leaves: two for the one door, and two leaves for the other. BSB BSB: and each door had two swinging panels. There were two panels for one door and two for the other.
DBY And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubim and palm-trees, as there were made upon the walls; and there was a wooden portal in front of the porch without, BSB BSB: Cherubim and palm trees like those on the walls were carved on the doors of the outer sanctuary, and there was a wooden canopy outside, on the front of the portico.
DBY and closed windows and palm-trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch and the side chambers of the house and the portals. BSB BSB: There were beveled windows and palm trees on the sidewalls of the portico. The side rooms of the temple also had canopies.
