Abraham to Father Many Nations 1 DBY And Abram was ninety-nine years old, when Jehovah appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God: walk before my face, and be perfect. BSB BSB: When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk before Me and be blameless.
DBY And I will set my covenant between me and thee, and will very greatly multiply thee. BSB BSB: I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.”
DBY And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying, BSB BSB: Then Abram fell facedown, and God said to him,
DBY It is I: behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of a multitude of nations. BSB BSB: “As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.
DBY And thy name shall no more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of a multitude of nations have I made thee. BSB BSB: No longer will you be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.
DBY And I will make thee exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. BSB BSB: I will make you exceedingly fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you.
DBY And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to thee, and to thy seed after thee. BSB BSB: I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
DBY And I give to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojourning, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be a God to them. BSB BSB: And to you and your descendants I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as an eternal possession; and I will be their God.”
The Covenant of Circumcision 9 DBY And God said to Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou and thy seed after thee in their generations. BSB BSB: God also said to Abraham, “You must keep My covenant—you and your descendants in the generations after you.
DBY And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and that shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. BSB BSB: You are to circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and this will be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
DBY And at eight days old shall every male in your generations be circumcised among you — he who is born in the house, and he who is bought with money, any stranger who is not of thy seed. BSB BSB: Generation after generation, every male must be circumcised when he is eight days old, including those born in your household and those purchased from a foreigner—even those who are not your offspring.
DBY He who is born in thy house, and he who is bought with thy money, must be circumcised; and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. BSB BSB: Whether they are born in your household or purchased, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh will be an everlasting covenant.
DBY And the uncircumcised male who hath not been circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his peoples: he hath broken my covenant. BSB BSB: But if any male is not circumcised, he will be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
DBY And God said to Abraham, As to Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. BSB BSB: Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her Sarai, for her name is to be Sarah.
DBY And I will bless her, and I will give thee a son also of her; and I will bless her, and she shall become nations: kings of peoples shall be of her. BSB BSB: And I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”
DBY And Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear? BSB BSB: Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah give birth at the age of ninety?”
DBY And God said, Sarah thy wife shall indeed bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him, for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him. BSB BSB: But God replied, “Your wife Sarah will indeed bear you a son, and you are to name him Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.
DBY But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to thee at this appointed time in the next year. BSB BSB: But I will establish My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”
DBY And he left off talking with him; and God went up from Abraham. BSB BSB: When He had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.
DBY And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money — every male among the people of Abraham's house — and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that same day, as God had said to him. BSB BSB: On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or purchased with his money—every male among the members of Abraham’s household—and he circumcised them, just as God had told him.
DBY And Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. BSB BSB: So Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised,
DBY And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. BSB BSB: and his son Ishmael was thirteen;
DBY In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son; BSB BSB: Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the same day.
DBY and all the men of his house, born in his house, or bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him. BSB BSB: And all the men of Abraham’s household—both servants born in his household and those purchased from foreigners—were circumcised with him.
