Genesis 6 Genesis 6
The flood and the nations
Corruption on the Earth (Matthew 24:36–51)
DBY And it came to pass when mankind began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them, BSB BSB: Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,
DBY that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and took themselves wives of all that they chose. BSB BSB: the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.
DBY And Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”
DBY In those days were the giants on the earth, and also afterwards, when the sons of God had come in to the daughters of men, and they had borne children to them; these were the heroes, who of old were men of renown. BSB BSB: The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.
DBY And Jehovah repented that he had made Man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. BSB BSB: And the LORD regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
DBY And Jehovah said, I will destroy Man, whom I have created, from the earth — from man to cattle, to creeping things, and to fowl of the heavens; for I repent that I have made them. BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “I will blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—every man and beast and crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.”
Noah’s Favor with God 8 DBY But Noah found favour in the eyes of Jehovah. BSB BSB: Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
DBY This is the history of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect amongst his generations: Noah walked with God. BSB BSB: This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.
DBY And Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. BSB BSB: And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
DBY And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was full of violence. BSB BSB: Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence.
DBY And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth. BSB BSB: And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways.
Preparing the Ark (Hebrews 11:7)
DBY And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is full of violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. BSB BSB: Then God said to Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will destroy both them and the earth.
DBY Make thyself an ark of gopher wood: with cells shalt thou make the ark; and pitch it inside and outside with pitch. BSB BSB: Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and coat it with pitch inside and out.
DBY And thus shalt thou make it: let the length of the ark be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. BSB BSB: And this is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
DBY A light shalt thou make to the ark; and to a cubit high shalt thou finish it above. And the door of the ark shalt thou set in its side: with a lower, second, and third story shalt thou make it. BSB BSB: You are to make a roof for the ark, finish its walls a cubit from the top, place a door in the side of the ark, and build lower, middle, and upper decks.
DBY For I, behold, I bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh under the heavens in which is the breath of life: everything that is on the earth shall expire. BSB BSB: And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
DBY But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt go into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. BSB BSB: But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
DBY And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee: they shall be male and female. BSB BSB: And you are to bring two of every living creature into the ark—male and female—to keep them alive with you.
DBY Of fowl after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of each shall go in to thee, to keep them alive. BSB BSB: Two of every kind of bird and animal and crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.
DBY And take thou of all food that is eaten, and gather it to thee, that it may be for food for thee and for them. BSB BSB: You are also to take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and gather it as food for yourselves and for the animals.”
DBY And Noah did it; according to all that God had commanded him, so did he. BSB BSB: So Noah did everything precisely as God had commanded him.
