Habakkuk’s Prayer 1 DBY A Prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. BSB BSB: This is a prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth:
DBY Jehovah, I heard the report of thee, and I feared. Jehovah, revive thy work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known: In wrath remember mercy! BSB BSB: O LORD, I have heard the report of You; I stand in awe, O LORD, of Your deeds. Revive them in these years; make them known in these years. In Your wrath, remember mercy!
DBY And his brightness was as the light; Rays came forth from his hand; And there was the hiding of his power. BSB BSB: His radiance was like the sunlight; rays flashed from His hand, where His power is hidden.
DBY Before him went the pestilence, And a burning flame went forth at his feet. BSB BSB: Plague went before Him, and fever followed in His steps.
DBY He stood, and measured the earth; He beheld, and discomfited the nations; And the eternal mountains were scattered, The everlasting hills gave way: His ways are everlasting. BSB BSB: He stood and measured the earth; He looked and startled the nations; the ancient mountains crumbled; the perpetual hills collapsed. His ways are everlasting.
DBY I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. BSB BSB: I saw the tents of Cushan in distress; the curtains of Midian were trembling.
DBY Was Jehovah wrathful with the rivers? Was thine anger against the rivers? Was thy rage against the sea, That thou didst ride upon thy horses, Thy chariots of salvation? BSB BSB: Were You angry at the rivers, O LORD? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You rage against the sea when You rode on Your horses, on Your chariots of salvation?
DBY Thy bow was made naked, The rods of discipline sworn according to thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. BSB BSB: You brandished Your bow; You called for many arrows. Selah You split the earth with rivers.
DBY The mountains saw thee, they were in travail: Torrents of waters passed by; The deep uttered its voice, Lifted up its hands on high. BSB BSB: The mountains saw You and quaked; torrents of water swept by. The deep roared with its voice and lifted its hands on high.
DBY The sun and moon stood still in their habitation, At the light of thine arrows which shot forth, — At the shining of thy glittering spear. BSB BSB: Sun and moon stood still in their places at the flash of Your flying arrows, at the brightness of Your shining spear.
DBY Thou didst march through the land in indignation, Thou didst thresh the nations in anger. BSB BSB: You marched across the earth with fury; You threshed the nations in wrath.
DBY Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, For the salvation of thine anointed; Thou didst smite off the head from the house of the wicked, Laying bare the foundation even to the neck. Selah. BSB BSB: You went forth for the salvation of Your people, to save Your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked and stripped him from head to toe. Selah
DBY Thou didst strike through with his own spears the head of his leaders: They came out as a whirlwind to scatter me, Whose exulting was as to devour the afflicted secretly. BSB BSB: With his own spear You pierced his head, when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though ready to secretly devour the weak.
DBY Thou didst walk through the sea with thy horses, The heap of great waters. BSB BSB: You trampled the sea with Your horses, churning the great waters.
DBY I heard, and my belly trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my place, That I might rest in the day of distress, When their invader shall come up against the people. BSB BSB: I heard and trembled within; my lips quivered at the sound. Decay entered my bones; I trembled where I stood. Yet I must wait patiently for the day of distress to come upon the people who invade us.
Habakkuk Rejoices 17 DBY For though the fig-tree shall not blossom, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive-tree shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls: BSB BSB: Though the fig tree does not bud and no fruit is on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the sheep are cut off from the fold and no cattle are in the stalls,
DBY Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation. BSB BSB: yet I will exult in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!
DBY Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength, And he maketh my feet like hinds' feet , And he will make me to walk upon my high places. To the chief Musician. On my stringed instruments. BSB BSB: GOD the Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights! For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments.
