In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 2 DBY In my Father's house there are many abodes; were it not so, I had told you: for I go to prepare you a place; BSB BSB: In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 DBY and if I go and shall prepare you a place, I am coming again and shall receive you to myself, that where I am ye also may be. BSB BSB: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
4 DBY And ye know where I go, and ye know the way. BSB BSB: You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5 DBY Thomas says to him, Lord, we know not where thou goest, and how can we know the way? BSB BSB: “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
7 DBY If ye had known me, ye would have known also my Father, and henceforth ye know him and have seen him. BSB BSB: If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8 DBY Philip says to him, Lord, shew us the Father and it suffices us. BSB BSB: Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
10 DBY Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words which I speak to you I do not speak from myself; but the Father who abides in me, he does the works. BSB BSB: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11 DBY Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; but if not, believe me for the works' sake themselves. BSB BSB: Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
12 DBY Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me, the works which I do shall he do also, and he shall do greater than these, because I go to the Father. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 DBY And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. BSB BSB: And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 DBY If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. BSB BSB: If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (John 16:5–16)
17 DBY the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him nor know him; but ye know him, for he abides with you, and shall be in you. BSB BSB: the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
18 DBY I will not leave you orphans, I am coming to you. BSB BSB: I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 DBY Yet a little and the world sees me no longer; but ye see me; because I live ye also shall live. BSB BSB: In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 DBY In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. BSB BSB: On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 DBY He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; but he that loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. BSB BSB: Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
22 DBY Judas, not the Iscariote, says to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us and not to the world? BSB BSB: Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
24 DBY He that loves me not does not keep my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but that of the Father who has sent me. BSB BSB: Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25 DBY These things I have said to you, abiding with you; BSB BSB: All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
Peace I Leave with You 29 DBY And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it shall have come to pass ye may believe. BSB BSB: And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 DBY I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world comes, and in me he has nothing; BSB BSB: I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
31 DBY but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father has commanded me, thus I do. Rise up, let us go hence. BSB BSB: But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
