The Plot to Kill Jesus (Matthew 26:1–5; Luke 22:1–2; John 11:45–57)
DBY Now the passover and the feast of unleavened bread was after two days. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might seize him by subtlety and kill him. BSB BSB: Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were two days away, and the chief priests and scribes were looking for a covert way to arrest Jesus and kill Him.

DBY And when he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he lay at table, there came a woman having an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly; and having broken the alabaster flask, she poured it out upon his head. BSB BSB: While Jesus was in Bethany reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured it on Jesus’ head.
DBY And there were some indignant in themselves, and saying, Why has this waste been made of the ointment? BSB BSB: Some of those present, however, expressed their indignation to one another: “Why this waste of perfume?
DBY for this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. And they spoke very angrily at her. BSB BSB: It could have been sold for over three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor.” And they scolded her.
DBY But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do ye trouble her? she has wrought a good work as to me; BSB BSB: But Jesus said, “Leave her alone; why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful deed to Me.
DBY for ye have the poor always with you, and whenever ye would ye can do them good; but me ye have not always. BSB BSB: The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have Me.
DBY What she could she has done. She has beforehand anointed my body for the burial. BSB BSB: She has done what she could to anoint My body in advance of My burial.
DBY And verily I say unto you, Wheresoever these glad tidings may be preached in the whole world, what this woman has done shall be also spoken of for a memorial of her. BSB BSB: And truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

DBY And wheresoever he enters, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says, Where is my guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples? BSB BSB: and whichever house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is My guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’
DBY and he will shew you a large upper room furnished ready. There make ready for us. BSB BSB: And he will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
DBY And his disciples went away and came into the city, and found as he had said to them; and they made ready the passover. BSB BSB: So the disciples left and went into the city, where they found everything as Jesus had described. And they prepared the Passover.

DBY But he answered and said to them, One of the twelve, he who dips with me in the dish. BSB BSB: He answered, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping his hand into the bowl with Me.
DBY The Son of man goes indeed as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is delivered up; it were good for that man if he had not been born. BSB BSB: The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
DBY And as they were eating, Jesus, having taken bread, when he had blessed, broke it , and gave it to them, and said, Take this : this is my body. BSB BSB: While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.”

DBY Verily I say to you, I will no more drink at all of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: Truly I tell you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.”

DBY And Jesus says to them, All ye shall be offended, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad. BSB BSB: Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’
DBY But after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. BSB BSB: But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”

DBY But he said so much exceedingly the more, If I should have to die with thee, I will in no wise deny thee. And likewise said they all too. BSB BSB: But Peter kept insisting, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the others said the same thing.

DBY And, going forward a little, he fell upon the earth; and he prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him. BSB BSB: Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour would pass from Him.
DBY And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, Simon, dost thou sleep? Hast thou not been able to watch one hour? BSB BSB: Then Jesus returned and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you asleep?” He asked. “Were you not able to keep watch for one hour?
DBY Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh weak. BSB BSB: Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
DBY And going away, he prayed again, saying the same thing. BSB BSB: Again He went away and prayed, saying the same thing.

DBY And the high priest, having rent his clothes, says, What need have we any more of witnesses? BSB BSB: At this, the high priest tore his clothes and declared, “Why do we need any more witnesses?

DBY And the maid, seeing him, again began to say to those that stood by, This is one of them. BSB BSB: There the servant girl saw him and again said to those standing nearby, “This man is one of them.”
DBY And he again denied. And again, after a little, those that stood by said to Peter, Truly thou art one of them, for also thou art a Galilean. BSB BSB: But he denied it again. After a little while, those standing nearby said once more to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you too are a Galilean.”
DBY But he began to curse and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak. BSB BSB: But he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak!”
DBY And the second time a cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice; and when he thought thereon he wept. BSB BSB: And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he broke down and wept.
