Laws about Offerings 1 DBY And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
DBY Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of your dwellings, which I give unto you, BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: After you enter the land that I am giving you as a home
DBY and will make an offering by fire to Jehovah, a burnt-offering or a sacrifice for the performance of a vow, or as a voluntary offering, or in your set feasts, to make a sweet odour to Jehovah, of the herd or of the flock, BSB BSB: and you present a food offering to the LORD from the herd or flock to produce a pleasing aroma to the LORD—either a burnt offering or a sacrifice, for a special vow or freewill offering or appointed feast—
DBY then shall he that presenteth his offering to Jehovah bring as oblation a tenth part of fine flour mingled with a fourth part of a hin of oil; BSB BSB: then the one presenting his offering to the LORD shall also present a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter hin of olive oil.
DBY and of wine for a drink-offering shalt thou offer the fourth part of a hin with the burnt-offering, or with the sacrifice, for one lamb. BSB BSB: With the burnt offering or sacrifice of each lamb, you are to prepare a quarter hin of wine as a drink offering.
DBY And for a ram thou shalt offer as oblation two tenth parts of fine flour mingled with oil, a third part of a hin, BSB BSB: With a ram you are to prepare a grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a third of a hin of olive oil,
DBY and of wine for a drink-offering shalt thou offer the third part of a hin; for a sweet odour to Jehovah. BSB BSB: and a third of a hin of wine as a drink offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
DBY And when thou offerest a bullock for a burnt-offering, or a sacrifice for the performance of a vow, or for a peace-offering to Jehovah, BSB BSB: When you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering or sacrifice to fulfill a vow or as a peace offering to the LORD,
DBY then shall they present with the bullock as oblation three tenth parts of fine flour mingled with half a hin of oil; BSB BSB: present with the bull a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with half a hin of olive oil.
DBY and of wine shalt thou present half a hin, for a drink-offering, as an offering by fire, of a sweet odour to Jehovah. BSB BSB: Also present half a hin of wine as a drink offering. It is a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
DBY Thus shall it be done for one ox, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or for a kid; BSB BSB: This is to be done for each bull, ram, lamb, or goat.
DBY according to the number that ye offer, so shall ye do to every one according to their number. BSB BSB: This is how you must prepare each one, no matter how many.
DBY And all that are born in the land shall do these things thus, in presenting an offering by fire of a sweet odour to Jehovah. BSB BSB: Everyone who is native-born shall prepare these things in this way when he presents a food offering as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
DBY And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whoever be among you throughout your generations, and will offer an offering by fire of a sweet odour to Jehovah, — as ye do, so shall he do. BSB BSB: And for the generations to come, if a foreigner residing with you or someone else among you wants to prepare a food offering as a pleasing aroma to the LORD, he is to do exactly as you do.
DBY As to the congregation, there shall be one statute for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an everlasting statute throughout your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be, before Jehovah. BSB BSB: The assembly is to have the same statute both for you and for the foreign resident; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.
DBY One law and one ordinance shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you. BSB BSB: The same law and the same ordinance will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing with you.”
DBY And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
DBY Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I bring you, BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land to which I am bringing you
DBY then it shall be, when ye eat of the bread of the land, that ye shall offer a heave-offering to Jehovah; BSB BSB: and you eat the food of the land, you shall lift up an offering to the LORD.
DBY the first of your dough shall ye offer, a cake, for a heave-offering; as the heave-offering of the threshing-floor, so shall ye offer this. BSB BSB: From the first of your dough, you are to lift up a cake as a contribution; offer it just like an offering from the threshing floor.
DBY Of the first of your dough ye shall give to Jehovah a heave-offering throughout your generations. BSB BSB: Throughout your generations, you are to give the LORD an offering from the first of your dough.
Offerings for Unintentional Sins 22 DBY And if ye sin inadvertently, and do not all these commandments, which Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses, BSB BSB: Now if you stray unintentionally and do not obey all these commandments that the LORD has spoken to Moses—
DBY all that Jehovah hath commanded you through Moses, from the day that Jehovah gave commandment, and henceforward throughout your generations; BSB BSB: all that the LORD has commanded you through Moses from the day the LORD gave them and continuing through the generations to come—
DBY then it shall be, if ought be committed by inadvertence hid from the eyes of the assembly, that the whole assembly shall offer one young bullock for a burnt-offering, for a sweet odour to Jehovah, and its oblation and its drink-offering according to the ordinance, and one buck of the goats for a sin-offering. BSB BSB: and if it was done unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
DBY And the priest shall make atonement for the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it was a sin of inadvertence, and they have brought before Jehovah their offering, as an offering by fire to Jehovah, and their sin-offering for their sin of inadvertence; BSB BSB: The priest is to make atonement for the whole congregation of Israel, so that they may be forgiven; for the sin was unintentional and they have brought to the LORD a food offering and a sin offering, presented before the LORD for their unintentional sin.
DBY and it shall be forgiven the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; for with all the people there was a sin of inadvertence. BSB BSB: Then the whole congregation of Israel and the foreigners residing among them will be forgiven, since it happened to all the people unintentionally.
DBY And if one soul sin through inadvertence, then he shall present a yearling she-goat for a sin-offering. BSB BSB: Also, if one person sins unintentionally, he is to present a year-old female goat as a sin offering.
DBY And the priest shall make atonement for the soul that hath done inadvertently, when he sinneth by inadvertence before Jehovah, to make atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him. BSB BSB: And the priest shall make atonement before the LORD on behalf of the person who erred by sinning unintentionally; and when atonement has been made for him, he will be forgiven.
DBY For him that is born in the land among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them — there shall be one law for you, for him who doeth anything through inadvertence. BSB BSB: You shall have the same law for the one who acts in error, whether he is a native-born Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.
DBY But the soul that doeth ought with a high hand, whether born in the land, or a stranger, he reproacheth Jehovah; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. BSB BSB: But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
DBY For he hath despised the word of Jehovah, and hath broken his commandment: that soul shall surely be cut off; his iniquity is upon him. BSB BSB: He shall certainly be cut off, because he has despised the word of the LORD and broken His commandment; his guilt remains on him.”
A Sabbath-Breaker Stoned (Exodus 31:12–17)
DBY And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness they found a man gathering sticks on the sabbath day. BSB BSB: While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day.
DBY And they that found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to the whole assembly. BSB BSB: Those who found the man gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation,
DBY And they put him in custody, for it was not declared what should be done to him. BSB BSB: and because it had not been declared what should be done to him, they placed him in custody.
DBY And Jehovah said to Moses, The man shall certainly be put to death: the whole assembly shall stone him with stones outside the camp. BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death. The whole congregation is to stone him outside the camp.”
DBY And the whole assembly led him outside the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died, as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: So the whole congregation took the man outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The Law of Tassels 37 DBY And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Moses,
DBY Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them tassels on the corners of their garments, throughout their generations, and that they attach to the tassel of the corners a lace of blue; BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them that throughout the generations to come they are to make for themselves tassels for the corners of their garments, with a blue cord on each tassel.
DBY and it shall be unto you for a tassel, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Jehovah, and do them; and that ye seek not after the lusts of your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye go a whoring; BSB BSB: These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the commandments of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own eyes.
DBY that ye may remember and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. BSB BSB: Then you will remember and obey all My commandments, and you will be holy to your God.
DBY I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am Jehovah your God. BSB BSB: I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD your God.”
