Praise to the Creator (Psalm 148:1–14)
1 DBY Exult, ye righteous, in Jehovah: praise is comely for the upright. BSB BSB: Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous ones; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him.
2 DBY Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp; sing psalms unto him with the ten-stringed lute. BSB BSB: Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to Him with ten strings.
3 DBY Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud sound. BSB BSB: Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4 DBY For the word of Jehovah is right, and all his work is in faithfulness. BSB BSB: For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is trustworthy.
5 DBY He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the loving-kindness of Jehovah. BSB BSB: The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His loving devotion.
6 DBY By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. BSB BSB: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth.
7 DBY He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap; he layeth up the deeps in storehouses. BSB BSB: He piles up the waters of the sea; He puts the depths into storehouses.
8 DBY Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. BSB BSB: Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere Him.
9 DBY For he spoke, and it was done ; he commanded, and it stood fast. BSB BSB: For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.
10 DBY Jehovah frustrateth the counsel of the nations; he maketh the thoughts of the peoples of none effect. BSB BSB: The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples.
11 DBY The counsel of Jehovah standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation. BSB BSB: The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations.
12 DBY Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance! BSB BSB: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
13 DBY Jehovah looketh from the heavens; he beholdeth all the sons of men: BSB BSB: The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
14 DBY From the place of his habitation he looketh forth upon all the inhabitants of the earth; BSB BSB: From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth.
15 DBY He who fashioneth the hearts of them all, who considereth all their works. BSB BSB: He shapes the hearts of each; He considers all their works.
16 DBY The king is not saved by the multitude of his forces; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. BSB BSB: No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength.
17 DBY The horse is a vain thing for safety; neither doth he deliver by his great power. BSB BSB: A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save.
18 DBY Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his loving-kindness, BSB BSB: Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion
19 DBY To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. BSB BSB: to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 DBY Our soul waiteth for Jehovah: he is our help and our shield. BSB BSB: Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
21 DBY For in him shall our heart rejoice, because we have confided in his holy name. BSB BSB: For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name.
22 DBY Let thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, according as we have hoped in thee. BSB BSB: May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You.
