Psalm 52 52 Psalms Book 2 Darby Translation Why Do You Boast of Evil? (1 Samuel 22:6–23)
DBY To the chief Musician: an instruction. Of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David came to the house of Ahimelech. Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness of God abideth continually. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Maskil of David. After Doeg the Edomite went to Saul and told him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.” Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The loving devotion of God endures all day long.
DBY Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit. BSB BSB: Your tongue devises destruction like a sharpened razor, O worker of deceit.
DBY Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. BSB BSB: You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking truth. Selah
DBY Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue! BSB BSB: You love every word that devours, O deceitful tongue.
DBY God shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. BSB BSB: Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent; He will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
DBY The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, BSB BSB: The righteous will see and fear; they will mock the evildoer, saying,
DBY Behold the man that made not God his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his avarice. BSB BSB: “Look at the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his wealth and strengthened himself by destruction.”
DBY But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God: I will confide in the loving-kindness of God for ever and ever. BSB BSB: But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in the loving devotion of God forever and ever.
DBY I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it ; and I will wait on thy name, before thy godly ones, for it is good. BSB BSB: I will praise You forever, because You have done it. I will wait on Your name—for it is good—in the presence of Your saints.
