Psalm 64 64 Psalms Book 2 Darby Translation The Hurtful Tongue (James 3:1–12)
DBY To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice in my plaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy: BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
DBY Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, from the tumultuous crowd of the workers of iniquity, BSB BSB: Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,
DBY Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword, and have aimed their arrow, a bitter word; BSB BSB: who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,
DBY That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. BSB BSB: ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.
DBY They encourage themselves in an evil matter, they concert to hide snares; they say, Who will see them? BSB BSB: They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say.
DBY They devise iniquities: We have it ready, the plan is diligently sought out. And each one's inward thought and heart is deep. BSB BSB: They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious.
DBY But God will shoot an arrow at them: suddenly are they wounded; BSB BSB: But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.
DBY By their own tongue they are made to fall over one another: all that see them shall flee away. BSB BSB: They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.
DBY And all men shall fear, and shall declare God's doing; and they shall wisely consider his work. BSB BSB: Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done.
DBY The righteous shall rejoice in Jehovah, and trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. BSB BSB: Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult.
