God’s Fellow Workers (Hebrews 5:11–14)
DRA And I, brethren, could not speak to you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal. As unto little ones in Christ. BSB BSB: Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly—as infants in Christ.
DRA I gave you milk to drink, not meat; for you were not able as yet. But neither indeed are you now able; for you are yet carnal. BSB BSB: I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready,
DRA For, whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal, and walk according to man? BSB BSB: for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?
DRA For while one saith, I indeed am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollo; are you not men? What then is Apollo, and what is Paul? BSB BSB: For when one of you says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere men?
DRA The ministers of him whom you have believed; and to every one as the Lord hath given. BSB BSB: What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, as the Lord has assigned to each his role.
DRA I have planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the increase. BSB BSB: I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
DRA Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. BSB BSB: So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
DRA Now he that planteth, and he that watereth, ate one. And every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour. BSB BSB: He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
DRA For we are God’s coadjutors: you are God’s husbandry; you are God’s building. BSB BSB: For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
Christ Our Foundation (Isaiah 28:14–22; Ephesians 2:19–22; 1 Peter 2:1–8)
DRA According to the grace of God that is given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. BSB BSB: By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds.
DRA For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
DRA Now if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble: BSB BSB: If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,
DRA Every man’s work shall be manifest; for the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it shall be revealed in fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work, of what sort it is. BSB BSB: his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work.
DRA If any man’s work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. BSB BSB: If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward.
DRA If any man’s work burn, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. BSB BSB: If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames.
God’s Temple and God’s Wisdom (Romans 12:1–8; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20)
DRA Know you not, that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? BSB BSB: Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
DRA But if any man violate the temple of God, him shall God destroy. For the temple of God is holy, which you are. BSB BSB: If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
DRA Let no man deceive himself: if any man among you seem to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. BSB BSB: Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise.
DRA For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written: I will catch the wise in their own craftiness. BSB BSB: For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”
DRA And again: The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. BSB BSB: And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”
DRA Let no man therefore glory in men. BSB BSB: Therefore, stop boasting in men. All things are yours,
DRA For all things are yours, whether it be Paul, or Apollo, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to some; for all are yours; BSB BSB: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. All of them belong to you,
DRA And you are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s. BSB BSB: and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
