Children of God 1 DRA Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him. BSB BSB: Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
DRA Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know, that, when he shall appear, we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is. BSB BSB: Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.
DRA And every one that hath this hope in him, sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy. BSB BSB: And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as Christ is pure.
DRA Whosoever committeth sin committeth also iniquity; and sin is iniquity. BSB BSB: Everyone who practices sin practices lawlessness as well. Indeed, sin is lawlessness.
DRA And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin. BSB BSB: But you know that Christ appeared to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin.
DRA Whosoever abideth in him, sinneth not; and whosoever sinneth, hath not seen him, nor known him. BSB BSB: No one who remains in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has seen Him or known Him.
DRA Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is just, even as he is just. BSB BSB: Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
DRA He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil. BSB BSB: The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.
DRA Whosoever is born of God, committeth not sin: for his seed abideth in him, and he can not sin, because he is born of God. BSB BSB: Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
DRA In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever is not just, is not of God, nor he that loveth not his brother. BSB BSB: By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
Love One Another (John 13:31–35; Romans 12:9–13)
DRA For this is the declaration, which you have heard from the beginning, that you should love one another. BSB BSB: This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
DRA Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother. And wherefore did he kill him? Because his own works were wicked: and his brother’s just. BSB BSB: Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did Cain slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous.
DRA Wonder not, brethren, if the world hate you. BSB BSB: So do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
DRA Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself. BSB BSB: Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.
DRA In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. BSB BSB: By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
DRA He that hath the substance of this world, and shall see his brother in need, and shall shut up his bowels from him: how doth the charity of God abide in him? BSB BSB: If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
DRA My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth. BSB BSB: Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.
DRA In this we know that we are of the truth: and in his sight shall persuade our hearts. BSB BSB: And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence:
DRA For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. BSB BSB: Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.
DRA Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God: BSB BSB: Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God,
DRA And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight. BSB BSB: and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.
DRA And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us. BSB BSB: And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we should love one another just as He commanded us.
DRA And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. BSB BSB: Whoever keeps His commandments remains in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.
