Reaffirm Your Love 1 DRA But I determined this with myself, not to come to you again in sorrow. BSB BSB: So I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you.
DRA For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then that can make me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me? BSB BSB: For if I grieve you, who is left to cheer me but those whom I have grieved?
DRA And I wrote this same to you; that I may not, when I come, have sorrow upon sorrow, from them of whom I ought to rejoice: having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. BSB BSB: I wrote as I did so that on my arrival I would not be grieved by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would share my joy.
DRA For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not that you should be made sorrowful: but that you might know the charity I have more abundantly towards you. BSB BSB: For through many tears I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart, not to grieve you but to let you know how much I love you.
DRA And if any one have caused grief, he hath not grieved me; but in part, that I may not burden you all. BSB BSB: Now if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me but all of you—to some degree, not to overstate it.
DRA To him who is such a one, this rebuke is sufficient, which is given by many: BSB BSB: The punishment imposed on him by the majority is sufficient for him.
DRA So that on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. BSB BSB: So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
DRA Wherefore, I beseech you, that you would confirm your charity towards him. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
DRA For to this end also did I write, that I may know the experiment of you, whether you be obedient in all things. BSB BSB: My purpose in writing you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
DRA And to whom you have pardoned any thing, I also. For, what I have pardoned, if I have pardoned any thing, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ. BSB BSB: If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,
DRA That we be not overreached by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his devices. BSB BSB: in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Triumph in Christ 12 DRA And when I was come to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened unto me in the Lord, BSB BSB: Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and a door stood open for me in the Lord,
DRA I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother; but bidding them farewell, I went into Macedonia. BSB BSB: I had no peace in my spirit, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.
DRA Now thanks be to God, who always maketh us to triumph in Christ Jesus, and manifesteth the odour of his knowledge by us in every place. BSB BSB: But thanks be to God, who always leads us triumphantly as captives in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.
DRA For we are the good odour of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. BSB BSB: For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
DRA To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient? BSB BSB: To the one we are an odor that brings death, to the other a fragrance that brings life. And who is qualified for such a task?
DRA For we are not as many, adulterating the word of God; but with sincerity, but as from God, before God, in Christ we speak. BSB BSB: For we are not like so many others, who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as men sent from God.
