Freedom in Christ 2 DRA Behold, I Paul tell you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. BSB BSB: Take notice: I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 DRA And I testify again to every man circumcising himself, that he is a debtor to the whole law. BSB BSB: Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 DRA You are made void of Christ, you who are justified in the law: you are fallen from grace. BSB BSB: You who are trying to be justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 DRA For we in spirit, by faith, wait for the hope of justice. BSB BSB: But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness.
7 DRA You did run well, who hath hindered you, that you should not obey the truth? BSB BSB: You were running so well. Who has obstructed you from obeying the truth?
8 DRA This persuasion is not from him that calleth you. BSB BSB: Such persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.
9 DRA A little leaven corrupteth the whole lump. BSB BSB: A little leaven works through the whole batch of dough.
10 DRA I have confidence in you in the Lord: that you will not be of another mind: but he that troubleth you, shall bear the judgment, whosoever he be. BSB BSB: I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
11 DRA And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the scandal of the cross made void. BSB BSB: Now, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 DRA I would they were even cut off, who trouble you. BSB BSB: As for those who are agitating you, I wish they would proceed to emasculate themselves!
13 DRA For you, brethren, have been called unto liberty: only make not liberty an occasion to the flesh, but by charity of the spirit serve one another. BSB BSB: For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.
14 DRA For all the law is fulfilled in one word: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. BSB BSB: The entire law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 DRA But if you bite and devour one another; take heed you be not consumed one of another. BSB BSB: But if you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.
Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Romans 8:9–11)
16 DRA I say then, walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. BSB BSB: So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 DRA For the flesh lusteth against the spirit: and the spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would. BSB BSB: For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18 DRA But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law. BSB BSB: But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 DRA Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury, BSB BSB: The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;
20 DRA Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects, BSB BSB: idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions,
21 DRA Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 DRA But the fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity, BSB BSB: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 DRA Mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such there is no law. BSB BSB: gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 DRA And they that are Christ’s, have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences. BSB BSB: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 DRA If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. BSB BSB: Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.
26 DRA Let us not be made desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying on another. BSB BSB: Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
