Habakkuk’s Prayer 1 DRA A PRAYER OF HABACUC THE PROPHET FOR IGNORANCES. BSB BSB: This is a prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth:
DRA O Lord, I have heard thy hearing, and was afraid. O Lord, thy work, in the midst of the years bring it to life: In the midst of the years thou shalt make it known: when thou art angry, thou wilt remember mercy. BSB BSB: O LORD, I have heard the report of You; I stand in awe, O LORD, of Your deeds. Revive them in these years; make them known in these years. In Your wrath, remember mercy!
DRA His brightness shall be as the light; horns are in his hands: There is his strength hid: BSB BSB: His radiance was like the sunlight; rays flashed from His hand, where His power is hidden.
DRA Death shall go before his face. And the devil shall go forth before his feet. BSB BSB: Plague went before Him, and fever followed in His steps.
DRA He stood and measured the earth. He beheld, and melted the nations: and the ancient mountains were crushed to pieces. The hills of the world were bowed down by the journeys of his eternity. BSB BSB: He stood and measured the earth; He looked and startled the nations; the ancient mountains crumbled; the perpetual hills collapsed. His ways are everlasting.
DRA I saw the tents of Ethiopia for their iniquity, the curtains of the land of Madian shall be troubled. BSB BSB: I saw the tents of Cushan in distress; the curtains of Midian were trembling.
DRA Wast thou angry, O Lord, with the rivers? or was thy wrath upon the rivers? or thy indignation in the sea? Who will ride upon thy horses: and thy chariots are salvation. BSB BSB: Were You angry at the rivers, O LORD? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You rage against the sea when You rode on Your horses, on Your chariots of salvation?
DRA Thou wilt surely take up thy bow: according to the oaths which thou hast spoken to the tribes. Thou wilt divide the rivers of the earth. BSB BSB: You brandished Your bow; You called for many arrows. Selah You split the earth with rivers.
DRA The mountains saw thee, and were grieved: the great body of waters passed away. The deep put forth its voice: the deep lifted up its hands. BSB BSB: The mountains saw You and quaked; torrents of water swept by. The deep roared with its voice and lifted its hands on high.
DRA The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation, in the light of thy arrows, they shall go in the brightness of thy glittering spear. BSB BSB: Sun and moon stood still in their places at the flash of Your flying arrows, at the brightness of Your shining spear.
DRA In thy anger thou wilt tread the earth under foot: in thy wrath thou wilt astonish the nations. BSB BSB: You marched across the earth with fury; You threshed the nations in wrath.
DRA Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people: for salvation with thy Christ. Thou struckest the head of the house of the wicked: thou hast laid bare his foundation even to the neck. BSB BSB: You went forth for the salvation of Your people, to save Your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked and stripped him from head to toe. Selah
DRA Thou hast cursed his sceptres, the head of his warriors, them that came out as a whirlwind to scatter me. Their joy was like that of him that devoureth the poor man in secret. BSB BSB: With his own spear You pierced his head, when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though ready to secretly devour the weak.
DRA Thou madest a way in the sea for thy horses, in the mud of many waters. BSB BSB: You trampled the sea with Your horses, churning the great waters.
DRA I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded. BSB BSB: I heard and trembled within; my lips quivered at the sound. Decay entered my bones; I trembled where I stood. Yet I must wait patiently for the day of distress to come upon the people who invade us.
Habakkuk Rejoices 17 DRA For the fig tree shall not blossom: and there shall be no spring in the vines. The labour of the olive tree shall fail: and the fields shall yield no food: the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls. BSB BSB: Though the fig tree does not bud and no fruit is on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the sheep are cut off from the fold and no cattle are in the stalls,
DRA But I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus. BSB BSB: yet I will exult in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!
DRA The Lord God is my strength: and he will make my feet like the feet of harts: and he the conqueror will lead me upon my high places singing psalms. BSB BSB: GOD the Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights! For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments.
